Clarence Avant, some refer to as The Black Godfather, passed away yesterday at the age of 92. There is a Netflix documentary about him which is very cool. Avant is most famously known for signing artist Bill Withers to his Sussex Records label. Avant also brokered the sale of Stax Recrods to Gulf + Western in the late 1960's for $4+ million. He was also a talent manager his most known client would have been soul singer Kim Weston
