Mia Hamm. Abby Wambach. Alex Morgan. Sophia Smith (2 goals and an assist against Vietnam). The US is good at unearthing lethal strikers. Not so good Canada

USA is the favorite, but I don't think they win it this year. I just don't think team is as dominate as others recently, and I'm American. I would not be surprised if they don't even make the Championship game.

That 3 - 0 game vs Vietnam was telling, it should've been 3 - 0 at halftime. I'm going with England or Germany to win it.

USA problems:
1. Inexperienced central defender Naomi Girma
2. Playing central midfielder Julie Ertz as central defender
3. Midfield dynamo Rose Lavelle not fully fit
4. Coach not a strategic thinker. Dull

They will be lucky to make semifinals.

Brazil looking really potent. Tip them for finals

I rarely watch women's sports, but I have to admit I do watch tons of sports in general and I like to peek at the betting odds for fun. USA 1st and Canada was 11th?
Mind you I only watched everyone's first games, and if I was a bookie, Canada's odds looked about right, but I would have USA 4th or 5th best. USA doesn't threepeat
and all the betting houses and Las Vegas will clean up ( I'm sure they will balance most of their risk but they all stay exposed to a small degree).

Is this an aberration? The Azzurre have been out of the World Cup longer than the Azzurri. They play Sweden on Saturday.

Italy 1 Argentina 0

This is a real touching story for this young Colombian rising Star called Linda Caicedo. At the age of 15 she made her debut at women's top flight.
She had to battle Ovarian Cancer and yet she overcame it to score for her country:

Watched the highlights and her performance was tremendous in the manner with her dribbling skills.
Hopefully, Colombia can at least make the playoffs.

Some of her skills:

I have good news for you. Rose Lavelle, the midfield dynamo, is fit to start. See the stunning goal she scored during final against Netherlands 4 years ago. A thing of beauty

The Filipino national team is comprised of 18 players born in the USA. But they play with pride for the Philippines representing their parents or grandparents. Inspiring. They shocked New Zealand 1-0

Ireland has scored on Canada in the first 4 minutes. (n) Damnit, we are the Olympic gold medallists too which means absolutely nothing in the World Cup.

Jordyn Huitema is not having a good World Cup. She missed three sitters for goals and she missed her assignment on the Irish corner kick. Being the tallest player on the pitch it was Huitema's role to guard the post. Sheridan couldn't reach the ball to tip it over the bar and Huitema couldn't head the ball clear. Sheridan looked at her with eyes of fire. She should reconnect with Fonzissimo.

After the early goal the Irish attempted an Italian Job on our girls. The Canadians had %65 of possession with only one SOG. If the deflection didn't go in the outcome could have been very different.

Can Canada cope without their inspirational leader?

Christine Sinclair is Canada's inspirational leader. Not Janine Beckie!!! She changed the match when she was brought on in the second half even though she missed two sitters
