I met people who have gotten out of poverty. They became poor for various reasons. None of them because of drugs.

We now know that this was a terrible way to treat illnesses, and we've developed better methods.
The problem (i.e. illnesses) still exist, but we have different methods of treating them (medicine).
Likewise we can learn from mistakes of the past or poor ways of treating problems to develop better ones.

Could it be that providing supports for hard working people to integrate into society is far easier than developing supports for people with significant public health issues?It's surprising that a little bit of publicity on homeless "refugees" gets a quick reaction from the Federal Government. But the people who have been homeless for a much longer time get sweet fuck all help from the Federal Government.
