Prigozhin Agrees to Stop PMC Wagner March, Start De-Escalation After Lukashenko's Mediation

Presidents Putin and Lukashenko spoke by phone on Saturday to discuss the situation in southern Russia, where Wagner PMC chief Evgeny Prigozhin launched an armed mutiny on Friday after accusing the Russian military of attacking his men. The Russian defense ministry denied the claims.
Evgeny Prigozhin has agreed to halt his forces' advance on Moscow.

"They sought to disband the Wagner PMC. We set off on June 23 on our march of justice. In a day we traveled to within 200 kilometers of Moscow. In this time, we have not shed a single drop of our fighters' blood. Now the moment has arrived when blood may be shed. Therefore, understanding our full responsibility for the possibility of Russian blood being shed by one of the sides, we are turning our columns around and heading in the opposite direction to our encampments in accordance with the plan," Prigozhin said in an audio recording Saturday evening.
Earlier, Belarusian state media reported that Prigozhin had agreed to halt his forces' march after mediation by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Lukashenko's talks with Prigozhin, said to have stretched throughout the day Saturday, were agreed with Putin. "As a result, the parties agreed to to the inadmissibility of unleashing a bloody massacre on Russian territory. Evgeny Prigozhin accepted President Lukashenko's proposal to stop the movement of Wagner's forces in Russia and to take further steps to de-escalate tensions," the report said.
The report further indicated that "absolutely advantageous and acceptable option for resolving the situation" had been tabled, including "security guarantees for Wagner's fighters."

PS. It was serious incident ….. Nothing but money and amnesty will solved this merc money problems here . Now … Back to deNazify the Urkanine force. Wagner forces will probably have a new leader. Look like it was serious internal conflict due to corruption and personal conflict between Russian MOD and Wagner leader. Ritter was correct this conflict would be over by this weekend the latest.

I had hoped Putin might have to withdraw troops from
Ukraine he would need to pacify the Wagner rebels. Then
he could blame Prigozhin on having to end the war prematurely.

I would like this war to end …forsake everyone on this planet!
Putin main objective is to deNazis Ukrainian forces. He will not withdraw from Ukraine territory that he annex already. This war will end by latest sometime late fall this year..when Ukrainian ran out of troops and amino.

With the Wagner group on his side again I think/hope Putin
will end the war no later than after Odessa is taken.

Nothing burger.. Russian will destroy this offensive like all other Ukrainian offensive. Maybe it was a psychological ops with Putin and Wagner leaders and Russian Ministers of Defense. It 6 D chess game military level strategy that forces Ukrainian to commits it offensive earlier.
If they come back.

Me too. Too bad Prigozhin chickened out. Like most big mouthed bullies, they eventually cave in or get beaten when they have to put up or shut up.

I have always been of the opinion that the Ukraine war will somehow end with the self-inflicted, internal failure of Russia. Somehow with their own hubris and by their own actions.

This hasn't stopped, its now the rumbling of an avalanche after seeing one bit of snow move in the middle of a hill.

Here the alternative real version: Will see how it play out. Putin will stay in power!

One theory seems as good as any other at this point, again given the ultra-bizarre spectacle of the whole "march for justice" on Moscow... by convoys of heavily armed mercenaries.

And then there was the heavy defense ministry pressure to essentially disband Wagner amid the long-running simmering tensions and war of words:

There's always the potential foreign 'hidden hand' theory behind any major insurrection like this, especially when it comes to a US-NATO enemy...

And finally, maybe Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has it right: old fashioned greed and glory (which Machiavelli warned about all the way back in the 16th century).

Here's Kadyrov on Prigozin's actions:

"I thought that some people can be trusted. That they sincerely love their Motherland as real patriots to the marrow of their bones. But it turned out that for the sake of personal ambitions, profit and because of arrogance, people can not give a damn about affection and love for the Fatherland."
Perhaps the truth will eventually emerge of the events over the last 24 hours, but what's clear is that Moscow wants to make this whole episode go away as rapidly as the crisis began, and is not even moving to arrest Prigozhin to make that happen. He will now just quietly "go away"... maybe a little vacation of sorts, into neighboring Belarus.

PS. Bottomline it is nothing burger but old fashioned greed from merc.
PPS. Funny how the MSM went from Wagner suffering incredible losses in Ukraine to Wagner invading and conquering Russia in 24 hrs or so.

Alternative theory:

This entire episode could be a carefully crafted counter espionage/anti-insurgency operation.

If the CIA has “activated” assets in Russia in the belief that Prigozhin’s antics are a “coup” (and especially since his claims validate the West’s own faulty analysis), then the cover of these western sympathizers will be blown, right?

What better way for The Russian Federation to identify subversive elements?

And there are many of these elements in Russia whose sympathies are with the west.

These elements can be eliminated now.

It seems to me that doing this is a necessary step in order to prepare for the coming total war against NATO.
