Well I tend to agree there :(

There is some precedent for it though in so much as a lot municipalities have started going after people that take unnecessary risk. People that end up stranded on ice, get lost etc.

Oh and I Jenesis. One thing I was trying to allude to. You, too assume a fair to high degree of risk. I hardly think you’re a fool.

If the sub blew up, wouldn't there be debris floating up to the surface?

As for taking risk, humankind have been taking risk since the dawn of time. My ancestors took a huge risk leaving the cave.

I believe the submersible wasn't originally built for tourism.
It was initially used for expedition. Only at a later time were
tourists brought in to finance expenses of the operation of
the sub. It could have been a crew of scientists entirely to
perish in this trip. You may not feel sympathetic for the
billionaires for the misfortune of being adventurous. But
I think the design and construction of the submersible for
deep sea exploration does merit appreciation.
Agree. This was not built for tourists but the rich are paying the bill
so we should stop calling them names and they are trained for
specific work while on the sub and they are courageous same with space tourists who have already bought early bird tickets. Money they spend is well spent instead of another yacht

As the titantic sunk near newfoundland the canadian coast guard is very much part of this rescue so who is paying the tab for stupid rich peoples bucket list ? Us ?
The working class tax payers foot the bill to find these ass hole billionaires. Strange how certain things work in life.

Who the fuck pays 250K to get into a small tube with no safety regulations for the sun or the people running?

I wouldn’t pay $2.50 to go in something like that.

Now I’m all for spend your money how you want, but you have to stop at stupid. It is not stupid to pay for that type of experience but it is certainly stupid to do so in an untested and unregulated vehicle.
You are like a sailor cussing and using four letter explicit words in your posts. :(

The sailors on the first ships that sailed from Europe also took a huge risk.

I would pay $250k NOT to go in it
But you would turning down the chance to be covered in barnacles

“On the first dive to the Titanic, the submersible encountered a battery issue and had to be manually attached to its lifting platform,” the filing reads. “OceanGate decided to cancel the second mission for repairs and operational enhancements” after the vessel “sustained modest damage to its external components,” it reads.

Was there a mothership that let them in the water? They should know where they are.
It's pretty stupid that they only brought 1 bottle of water for each person

The only toilet was a large Ziploc bag and you have to go in front of everyone. Not exactly "business class" amenities for $250K.

"There were safety concerns: OceanGate touted Titan's safety features, despite conflicting information over its development. CNN has learned of at least two former OceanGate employees who expressed safety concerns about the vessel’s hull years ago, including the thickness of the material used and testing procedures. The 23,000-pound craft is made of highly engineered carbon fiber and titanium. In fact, technology used in the missing Titan sub is so new that it hasn't been reviewed."

Since the sub is being piloted with a slightly modified $40.00 Logitech G F710 Wireless Gamepad, did anyone think of brining an extra set of AA batteries?

If anything good comes out of this the government will now come up with much stricter regulations for civilian owned submersibles

I read today that, although the hull was supposedly able to withstand the pressure at 13,000 feet, the porthole was only rated for 4,265 feet, and the company wasn't willing to pay for a porthole that would withstand a depth of 13,000 feet.
