Just 6 years in the NHL. In a city where no one plays hockey. And they win the Stanley Cup over a team from another city where no one plays hockey. A complete indictment of the NHL
\

Congrats to Vegas!

I think it is a wake up call to other organizations on how to build a team capable of winning the cup. Vegas hired experienced hockey people (versus a rookie GM and President such as Toronto had), a proven coach, and then brought in players with no ego who were hard workers.

The team does not have a core group of highly paid players and won the last three rounds using their 5th string goalie.

The city itself has embraced the team, they put on a good show for the fans, and have a solid fan base.

Classy move starting 5 out of the original 6 misfits for the opening face-off.

Hard not to respect a franchise like that.

And you wonder why Shack picks on you !! Self awareness can be a liberating thing - you may want to look into that before your next post.
And he is the ONLY person on this board that gets this treatment from me. And as you point out, it is for good reason.

Go
Way to take what is a wholesome new tradition in the Stanley Cup celebration and turn it into something potentially dark !!
You are a master of high-jacking threads into the realm of the absurd.

Reminds me of your pointless, completely off topic and inane sidetracking of the Guy Lafleur memorial thread into a totally irrelevant discussion of where to get the best bagel in the Montreal area.

And you wonder why Shack picks on you !! Self awareness can be a liberating thing - you may want to look into that before your next post.
Go see the pic in post 168 and then say you approve.

Unlike you the first time I looked at that photo I did not look closely or long enough to notice any male child appendages. All I saw in my quick glance was the image of a child crouching behind a woman's skirt which I understood to be Shack trying to make a point about you in your on-going (and frankly to me- very tiresome and childish) dispute.

However, I will acknowledge that I took your reference to the potential harm of posting images of children being made in relation to the Vegas players posing with their young kids sitting in the Stanley Cup. It never crossed my mind that it was in reference to the photo in post 168 which I had completely forgotten about.

So at the risk of being guilty of what I am accusing you of - my point still stands that you have a history of high jacking threads. And that is all I am going to post about this matter in this thread.

I'm sure you understand I had to be deliberately vague but expected (hope) any reader could put 2 and 2 together. Ok, we're done.

Are you unaware of what other members think of you?
Yes. And none of them call me a racist, as many of them refer to you. Are you aware of that?

You don't care if the NBA doesn't play because so few of them look like you? LOL. Kinda funny how none of them stick up for you when you post stuff like that.

The other thing to note is that you do not dispute what the message of my post is. You are a pussy unless you have someone to back you up. You attack me, but never my message. LOL.

They call and/or imply you are a wokie and/or a virtue signaller.

You agreed with the two posters who called me racist for condemning bride burning.

I never or almost never attacked you personally. Usually, I say something in self-defense only.

I don't have issues with other members even if we disagree on issues and almost always stick to the issues. You're the only member who post pics of Captain Obvious, Turtle Boy and that pic of a young boy with visible --------.

Wonder if this will have an impact on the salary cap?
Short term that has no impact.

The US TV Contract ends at the end of the 2028 season and the Canada TV Contract ends at the end of the 2026 season.
They are FIXED contracts.

Long term - if the trend continues into future playoffs then it could hurt.

This probably means the Leafs can't offer Matthews a $20mm p.a. or even a $15mm p.a. contract.

The cap number isn't changing because of this (as the TV contract is fixed for the next 3 seasons), so it has no impact on the max he can get.
$20m was never a possibility as the cap was never going to be high enough to grant him that.

The salary cap for next year is projected at 83.5 million. For the 2024/2025 it is projected at 87.5 million.
Auston is permitted to sign for 20% of the cap under the CBA.

If they extend him this summer (after July 1) it looks like they can pay him a max of $16.7 million.
If they sign him next summer its probably closer to $17.5 million.

Of course the Leafs would be idiotic to give him the full 20% of the cap, but the organization has been bending over for him since he got here. The 5 year contract (instead of 8) was one of the worst negotiations I have seen,

Yeah, I threw the $20mm out there as a joke. The rumours I'm hearing (for what its worth) is around the $15mm.

I heard that the cash portion of Marner's current contract was front-end loaded and he actually received $15mm cash in year one.

Elltiot Friedman reporting Brad Treliving has been to Arizona to visit Matthews. The current rumour is the Leafs will present an 8 year deal. No word on the dollar amount.
