Story in brief: if you own a Tesla, everything goes through the Tesla app on your phone. One of the security features is vehicle map. At anytime, open the app and you can see where the car is located. If your SO had the app installed on her phone (as it would normally be so), she can see where the car is. She can even go back in time and see the track the car created on a map, where you've been and all the detours you made.

Great feature if you have a tendency to forget where you parked the car at a mall, not a good at all if you have a regular SP. It could be dynamite ammo for a divorce lawyer!

I went through many (official and unofficial) Tesla forums and it's unanimous: It's part of the anti-theft system and can't be turned off. I read about a few tweaks that may be done, but results aren't conclusive.

Of course I can always park nearby, at a place like Canadian Tire and hoof a distance to my SP, but that seriously dampers whatever SP choices I may have. (unless I start using Über)

Tesla makes a lot of money selling your information to advertisers.

I still get a laugh out of the fact that they can track your vehicle everywhere (GM has the on star program where they know exactly where you are) yet once your vehicle is stolen it is impossible to locate it.

In addition, learn to use public transit. The only draw back would be you can't really use cash any more and you have use the Presto card ( Transport Card), even Aussi had one when I was there had to get it some places its free others you have to pay 5.

Or course if you live far from a bus stop more than a 1km it would be a hassle in the winter. If SP is in a motel on service road off the highway it would be a damper, so your choice of women would be limited.

Agree, but still a difficult task to explain one's whereabouts to your SO

Electric cars, fancy phones, fancy technology pose serious threat to this hobby.

I am a tesla owner and would never take the car out when going to see an sp because of all the tracking it does. Eventhough the SO isn't that techy and doesn't know much about the car or would even know how to use the tracking function I don't risk it. I take our regular old fashioned gas vehicle or just uber/lyft it to the sp's location. Technology is not always a good thing when your trying to leave as small a paper trail as possible

You do get a warning after awhile if there is an unknown airtag near you. This is somewhat dependent upon your iphone software version and proper settings.

I know it was or still a major concern for women with guys stalking them. I have one in my wallet ( lost one a year ago) and I absolutely love it. If I walk about 100 feet away from my wallet, I get a message on my phone. If I’m trying to find my “wallet” it can zero in within feet.

I’ve never received a message that an air tag is nearby with an updated iphone13

That bicycle is looking really good nowadays. When SO says why are you always taking your bike with you, just say, "I use it for my workouts!" Which isn't a lie.

can’t say much for privacy reasons but when at work, my phone is stationary in an area that’s used by quite a few people, who likewise do the same. Meaning if any of them, are like me and have one in a wallet, on car keys etc. I should have gotten a message by now. But it could mean, no one uses tags too.

Only works for iPhones or android users who installed the detection app for air tags.

Went for lunch with a buddy. My phone warned me of an unknown air tag travelling with me. I mentioned it to him.

Should have seen his wtf face. I showed him on my phone.

He’s an android user. Without knowledge of the app apparently to detect them (not sure how it works exactly as I only have an iPhone)

I asked him if he’s been anywhere he shouldn’t have been. All he could think of was strip club once this year.
Found out after his girlfriend claimed she put it in both their cars for security and was ‘sure she told him’.

Do not underestimate your wife's techy level. All you need is one of her much techier friends to suggest something or help her out. She could ask or the helpful type might volunteer. She might make a 'test' for fun before telling you about her new found knowledge. And that one time you let down your guard, bang!
