The man yells at a hispanic electrician and slaps her face because he thought she scratched a countertop.

Police took two hours to get there, and gave him only a ticket. He was not jailed, leaving many people angry.

He could have been racist and sexist. But maybe he was just an asshole. Most likely would not have talked to her like that if she was a big, white male.

lol no.

He slapped her hand and is being charged with assault. There's no privilege found anywhere in this incident.
Is he being charged or was he given a fine? If a fine, that is privilege.

Doesn’t matter if he hit her or the phone BTW.

A lot of people were confused because they said the man was only cited. This usually means they are given a ticket or fine. There was no mention of being charged, which could mean arrest and jail.

An arrest means incarceration at the jail till your appearance date, or bail, or booked and released with a court date. A misdemeanor citation is a criminal ticket with a court date where you have not been booked at the county jail.

So while he was cited and not arrested or booked, it seems he will have to go to court and face charges.

The dirtbag will probably lose big, no one will hire him now.
Not just his professiona life, but his personal. He has a family, so all his friends, neighbors and family will see video and know what a piece of shit he is. Anyone who googles his name will see the news about him. Thank god for the Internet.

He slapped the phone she was holding.
He slapped the phone in her hand by the looks of it. That kind of behaviour was typical a few years ago in the industry. To be honest if that happened today I probably wouldn't even think it was out of the ordinary. Your not suppose to be on the phone on company time and it's not a office environment.

I doubt it will effect anything. Toronto has lots of scum bag contractors and there behavior has been in the news many times and it effects nothing.

@mandrill - is being “cited” the same as an ROR from police? Do you know?

or is it to appear before a judge to see if charges will in fact be layed?

I didn't say it was ok but it just looked like he slapped the phone. Lots of money in construction and when things don't go right tempers flare.

Plus the video posted only shows part of the conversation which no doubt was intentional. She may have acted carelessly, or even intentionally caused the alleged damage and called him a gringo. We just don't know the full story.
