Spring time I went to clean my BBQ and there's this hole on cover on top. I don't know if this is a critter chewing on it or it just wore down from Weather exposure. What do you think?

No, I leave my BBQ oven with cover on it all year round. No issues at all, no damages or bite marks on the cover.

Might have been oil/grease on the bbq that dripped/wiped against the cover, and a hungry mid winter creature might have been chewing at the cover to seek those calories at it from the inside?

I've heard the animals, especially mice, like to chew on AC wires that have covers on them. The cover acts like a shelter.

Looks like wear and tear.
Agreed, the vinyl covers wear out eventually after repeated exposure to the elements. .I now use an “oversized “ cover to mitigate stress on the plastic covers which may lead to the cracks that you show cased.

Some products are made with soy derivatives and the critters like to munch on it. Apparently, as noted above, some cars have wiring covers made of that product and they destroy the wiring if they get under the hood.

I had to replace the natural gas hose once, the mice chewed on it all winter b/c it had grease dripped all over it
That was a nice $70 wasted
Now I am sure to clean the inside of the BBQ before every winter storage

I agree with Indiana, looks like wear and tear. I've been covering my BBQs for many years and never had an issue, even when in areas with lots of critters. I think there would have to be food residue (at least a bit of grease) to motivate a critter to chew on a cover.

I think its wise to invest in high quality waterproof covers if leaving bbq out in the elements. Otherwise you get erosion and tears like this.
