' Warriner was the younger of two sisters, "tiny but mighty" and "loved hard," her sister recalls. She also struggled with bipolar disorder, substance abuse and in the months leading up to her death, found herself living in a shelter after a break up. '

As a student, I worked as a porter in a general hospital. I would have to move patients around the hospital in a wheelchair or a gurney depending on their condition. I can remember that I was suppose to remove the restraints and move a patient that had come in with some kind of mental episode the night before. I was told the doctor had cleared him to be moved. As I entered the room the patient - a very muscular man - looked at me in the eye and said 'as soon as I get free, I'm going to kill you'. I called the security to handle the situation.

I'm guessing that is the same case here. You have to move a patient from point A to point B and they don't want to go. Independent of their age, mentally disturbed patients can fight like their lives depend on it. Maybe in their delusional state, they believe it. That is why the guards were called and not a porter. If it was my job to move her I would have used a blanket to approach her and wrap her arms to prevent her from scratching so I might have gotten in trouble. What I did notice is she was not barely hanging on to life - she got up and made a run for it. Maybe the effort worsened her condition but hindsight being 20/20, were they suppose to stun her with a tranquilizer gun first ?

I saw nothing on this that would suggest charging the guards with manslaughter. I don't know all the facts but from the video - it is not enough for me. Did they turn the camera away so they could jump on her like a trampoline ? That would be speculation but not proof of a crime.

I feel sorry for cops and medical professionals who face some terrifying circumstances only to be faced with criticism by relatives because 'Johnny was just having one of his little episodes'.

Big mystery is why they wanted to kill her.

They went down to see her with PPE gear on the onset. You'd think you'd bring that in and call for additional support if someone was disruptive and uncooperative. But from that camera footage you see that wasn't the case. She was just eating and minding her own business and they came down with full force with the intention to knock her out. Then their security camera guy moves away the camera.... That shows premeditation.

Maybe read the article fully? There were 2 witnesses and a coroner's report stating cause of death. (restraint asphyxia) which requires blocking one's airways for a LONG time in order to kill someone (I think like 4-5 minutes). That bitch pulled a Derek Chauvin on George Floyd and got away with it.

Except in this case, it was a 125 lb woman with COPD and potentially covid.

Yes, small people can put up a fight but sitting on a person with an already compromised respiratory system is a problem. Unless the woman was an immediate threat to other patients, they could have taken their time instead of Chauvining her.

You can hold down a small person long enough to handcuff them and not kill them. Suffocating someone to death requires doing that for 4-5 minutes. It did not take 5 minutes to handcuff a 125lb woman. Judge ruled "no evidence of excessive force" and dismissed a legit case. Screening out a case before trial like this is very rare.

The judge knows a lot more than we do.

Did the family file a civil suit get money?

This is Canada, not the litigious USA, it is hard to get money in Canada for this sort of thing. Even if you do it is a pittance compared to what is paid out south of the border.

Many years ago there was a case in Montreal where two young American guys came up to party. When the clubs downtown closed they took a cab out to the Laval industrial area to continue to party in an illegal after hours club. When they got to the industrial building where the club was they jumped out of the cab to stiff the cab driver his $45 fare. There was a hole in a fence that they went to hide in. Little did they know there was a cliff that went into a rock quarry just 15-20 ft. on the other side of the fence. They fell to their deaths in the quarry. When they were found, one of the mothers was on tv news saying that she had a lawyer looking into legal liability for the tragedy. In the USA you might get a big payday, but not up here in Canada.

I watched the video. This happed early in the pandemic. She was diagnosed (falsely according to the article) with covid in the hospital. The issue was her mask was around her chin in a common area. The reality was she already had a hard time breathing with COPD let alone with a mask thus why she was resisting wearing a mask. She was out in the common area because she was hungry according to the story likely because the food server staff didn't want to go in her room.

The security guards I'll assume thought she was a covid patient risking creating an outbreak in the hospital.

I agree with the plausibility of your post.

Turning the camera away just reeks of complicitness however.

I'm appalled at responses siding with the judge "not enough evidence" which is true if you're looking for a video but there were 2 eye witnesses and that does count as evidence. Something the judge doesn't want to run by a Jury. If the evidence was very weak, the guards wouldn't be charged and arrested in the first place.

I was in the General for some tests a while back and have only nice things to say about them.

There must be more to this story than just the vid. I'll defer to the judge.

Someone thew eggs at John Tory's office. He was arrested and thrown in jail. Kill someone in broad daylight, no problem. What's crazy is that they are still employed there!
