The voice of many a World Series, I didn't realize that he had a 21 year playing career as well. That's pretty impressive. RIP

I find that former catchers often make good colour commentators and analysts like Tim. They see the game well. As a player I remember him most as Steve Carlton's personal catcher for the last 6 years of his carreer. He saw little playing time when Lefty wasn't pitching in those days. I was surprised to find out that he finished second in NL MVP voting in 1967 because I remember most as a platoon player who called a good game.

Was a solid .271 lifetime hitter. 2 time all-star.

But what stands out to me is he hit .478 in the 64 world series over 23 ab's . That's doing it when it counted.

Great analytical mind on the broadcasts and loved his voice.

He wasn't a big fan of Deion Sanders though........

Didn't he win a WS in 1980 with the Phillies, Steve Carlton won two games for them that series.

It happens during the 92 WS.

Dion got stiff armed by Bo Jackson.

McCarver was Bob Gibson’s favourite catcher…nobody caught Gibson more than McCarver.
