I'm sure there are old threads but thought I would start this new one. I'm in so much pain right now I can't sleep. Never had it this bad. 😥 Advice?

So sorry to hear about this. I know how you feel. Got to see doctor to get a referral to see a neurosurgeon who will provide a diagnosis. Then when it is confirmed how bad it is, note I said how bad it is not whether you have it or not get the surgery.

In the short term order yourself this to wear at night

or this

You need to measure your wrist size and select right or left.

Doctor may also prescribe you this

Good luck

Missy hamermill is right, get a referral to a neurosurgeon. He's wrong about everything else, you need cold compression not heat insulation. To deal with the pain, forget Gabapentin, get Releaf Balm, it's cheaper and much more effective. Whenever I sense a pain surge coming I'll rub some on the pain triggers...then it's like nothing ever happened.

Note: If you get Releaf Balm keep the secondary lid on. The balm may lose essence without it. Get the Extra Strength if the pain is unbearable.

Hope this helps.

My brat got the step-mom a massager thing that wraps around the hand and wrist for this exact reason.

I don’t know if this is the one but something like this. Maybe look for these types of products. But I would go to a doctor if it is really bad

Wrist Brace, Hand Compression Carpal Tunnel Wrist Support Multifunctional Electric Wrist Heating Brace Hand Pain Relief Removable Splint Suitable for Both Right and Left Hands

Don't be sensitive.

I had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I corrected the problem with ice and wrist curls. I also have a sequence of broken bones, that I'm fighting to avoid rheumatism. I get pain surges which are erased by the balm for the day. The prescription lasted two hours tops and the $70 was not covered by my group plan.

If you have a health care professional, Doc. or NP, go see them. I had left and right carpal tunnel surgeries performed in `99 and 2000, nerve conduction study done before each procedure to assess severity. Don`t drag this out.

Don't jump to surgery right away. Surgery sometimes only fix the problem temporarily.

Do some research.. Mayo Clinic perhaps for your specifics. Speak with your Doc and Surgeon with concerns. I`ve been good, 23/24 years in. Get all the info you can, my condition was severely painful and aggravating, surgery was a big relief.

Can't offer any actual medical advice, but I can say I'm very sorry to hear you're experiencing so much pain. I sincerely hope there is a medical health pro out there neaby who can help reduce/eliminate your suffering quickly! Sending very positive vibes your way!

Been there done that twice. Go see your doctor and get a referral to a good plastic or neuro surgeon. They will assess and if it's a typical carpal tunnel they'll give you a local freezing and have it done in 15-20 minutes. All of the other suggestions may work but eventually you'll need surgery since most steps to alleviate pain are short term solutions only.

Are you sure it's that? Sometimes it could be a very common cyst that grows from the back of the wrist that can be confused with carpal

I got carpal tunnel obsessively playing tetris on my computer. Now I use stretching exercises and it seems to get better.

You should limit physical activities that put pressure on the medial nerve in your wrist.
Lifestyle activities or occupational modifications can help.
Tennis and hj can be antagonists.

Deal with any habits that make it worse. If using the phone for extended periods, take some breaks at regular intervals. I like using a timer to force me to take breaks.

Look at using ergonomic designed products, for example ergonomic computer keyboard and mouse (I like this mouse, there is also USB wired version). It may feel strange at first use but after initial adjustment you body will probably find less stress using the devices. Even basic household items like door handles have ergonomic options (use lever vs knob).

used to be married to a physiotherapist.

get two large buckets or bowls. Fill one with ice and the other with as hot a water as you can stand. Put your hand up to your wrist in the ice for 45 seconds. Then switch it to the hot water bucket. Keep doing this for about ten rotations. Always end with the cold water. It's helped me and saved me some pain and sleepless nights.

Good luck

Question for those of you with carpal tunnel, do you get a weird mix of tingling/raw nerve feeling in your index and middle finger? Like sometimes I'll be scrolling through a page with the mouse wheel and if feels like I'm rubbing my finger against sandpaper.

Everybody knows that excessive keyboarding aggravates this condition, right?
