Thug has a problem now as his hand made stooge puppet at city hall was charred to charcoal in a blaze of infamy.

Will Thug abrogate his own Strong Mayor powers Act to prevent a mayoral candidate not of his liking or choosing from winning the prescribed mayoral election dictated in his own act who would challenge Thug's thuggery over the city of Toronto?

Will Thug just install another hand made stooge puppet to do his bidding?

Will he abolish city council and appoint a stooge executive and administration in his own image?

Thug has a problem. When Thug has a problem, he behaves like a Thug.

Chances are if a new election is to proceed as dictated by Thug's own Act, a mayor who would actually act on the problems facing Toronto and not just sit idly by as Tory has for 8+ years, would win. This scenario would present a huge challenge and problem for Thug.

What tools weapons will Thug reach for in his Premiers Thugs tool box to protect his turf: brass knuckles, a steel pipe, large boulders, an Acme Co. cannonball kit?

Dartsy, how the fuck can they violate the Charter?!.... They're private contracts.
A municipality's actions, even as an employer, are subject to Charter scrutiny. That would include adopting nepotism/employee relationship policies. I agree with your observation in relation to private sector employers. There are standards to be met for those policies to be enforceable as a matter of employment law, but they aren't subject to Charter challenge.

Here's a link to Toronto Council's Code of Conduct: https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/accountability-operations-customer-service/accountability-officers/integrity-commissioner/code-of-conduct-for-members-of-council/#:~:text=Members should act with integrity, and bears close public scrutiny.

These isn't anything there that explicitly prevents politicians from having relationships with staff. There's just an obligation to avoid conflicts of interest and to act in a way that bolsters public confidence. I doubt they could have removed Tory for breach of the Code. I say this as someone who doesn't like Tory personally or like his policies for the city. (I would also concede that there are certainly FAR worse options, 2 of which have already said they are considering running). I read the Sanfiro web material that someone else linked, but frankly, like Sanfiro always is, the material is a little contradictory and superficial. Goes with the territory of representing the employee side of employment law disputes.

I think the decision to step down is ENTIRELY about Tory trying to avoid getting fleeced by a divorce. He needs to give Barb 100% of what she wants right now, including his time and the right optics, if he has any shot at that. Frankly, I'd say his chances are poor. She probably knew that John was getting serviced elsewhere (what else would an intelligent woman think when she isn't taking care of business?). Why else would she vamoose to Florida all through Covid? As usual, her "horrified" reaction is likely more about the public exposure that they have a sexless/loveless marriage than about the reality that she probably is mostly to blame for that.

The reality is that we live in a society where a woman can completely let her husband down sexually/emotionally, but men are considered to be the villains when they solve the problem their wife created.

Her decision whether to divorce Tory will be mostly about whether she's happier with 50% of his money and an open calendar vs. 100% of his money and lots of events in posh social circles. Might be a hard decision for her. It will have nothing to do with whether they can rekindle any romantic relationship, cause that's deader than Dead John A. MacDonald!

He is really stupid if he resigned to avoid a divorce. He will never live it down. His wife and children will hate him forever, even as his wife stayed in Florida for years on end. The marriage was likely over already except financially.

He can live comfortably on half of his money.
They hardly see each other anyway.

It would be hard to part with half his money, no matter how many people might tell him that life will actually be better, especially when there's no better woman waiting for him.

This is true to a certain extent. No one wants to lose half of their wealth but a man of his power and healthy assets\bank accounts will not have a problem attracting women. He just has to make sure he doesn't get taken by a gold digger.

Easier said than done to meet an attractive, sexually active woman who isn't a gold digger when you're pushing 70!

I resisted a divorce for many years, mostly because of the inevitable financial hit and upheaval. It was the dumbest thing I ever did (and I have done a few).

I fortunately met a gold digger, and I am very happy.

How will The Thug at Queens Park deal with:

A Josh Matlow, a Mike Layton, a Gord Perks or any other progressive mayoral candidate winning the mayoral election?

Can you imagine that The Thug will countenance any of the above having the strong mayor powers that he legally granted to the mayor any mayor, which allows the mayor to override even a conservative 2/3rds majority vote by council. It's not what he envisioned with his 2 strong mayors powers acts. In fact it's the exact opposite of what he desired.

After Mel Lastman, Rob Ford and now John Tory ruining the city for 2 decades, Toronto really is ready for a change from inaction.

Why else would she vamoose down to Florida during the thick of the pandemic you ask while the little people were told to stay home which included no flying? Because there she could get her hair done and still live a relatively normal life including eating in a BBQ joint if she wanted- while her hubby shut mostly everything down in Toronto. The bonus for Johnny was it made it much easier to fuck his young "assistant" with the wife out of the picture down in the freedom state.

Regarding your last paragraph this saga reminds me of a young Kamala "heels up" Harris who got her political head start in San Fran during the 90's, as then mayor Willie Browns 30 year his junior side piece. His wife decided your option B.

Don't these video's from February 2021 make just a little more sense now?

Tory could still change his mind, and remain the Mayor of Toronto.

The man did a great job during Covid and chased a troll out of our fair city. Bye, Bye Adam Skully and for that alone I would vote for John again.
