The same could be done for the portrayal of father figures in mass media. In fact, it's been well established that the Homer Simpson type replaced the kind, competent father figure years ago.

In Canadian commercials today whenever there is a group of people in the ad the creators go out of their way to include faces of different races.

Doesn't that reflect the actual ethnic mix in Toronto currently, which is over 50% non white?

Interesting in this advertisement for assisted death they don't.

That's a creepy, culty looking ad. I think they wanted all the people to look like a 70's sci fi horror movie.

You miss the point. I am quite sure that you keep a close count of whether the characters in commercials are black and white and who are higher-status. It's just that....... no one else bothers to do that.

Because it's petty, pointless and trivial.

Perhaps it's trivial when taken independent of all else. A lot of science and data is. But when you aggregate it, it paints a completely different picture.

I think this bothers you quite a bit because it reveals patterns in mass media that you wish you could deny. Hence the reason you want to downplay it and ostracize whoever it is taking notes.
