I would say that most fundamentalist viewpoints on religion (Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu etc.) are fairly brutal in their treatment of women. They are treated as second class citizens in many cases, not allow to hold jobs or do things outside of the household without their husband. And, historically, conquering armies or campaigns like the Crusades saw the sacking, raping and looting of cities. It was alright back then because they were doing it to heathens who were not Christian....So, bottomline, when you go hardcore conservative (in religion and growing evidence with conservatism), you tend to treat women pretty shitily....
