So I try to stay away from ordering on Amazon as much as I can. I don't care about the convenience or cost savings. I'd prefer to spend my money at local retailers. That being said in a pinch I decided to purchase two gift cards and have them sent electronically as Christmas gifts. So on Christmas morning I logged on purchased the gift cards and had them emailed/texted. Well don't I get an email the next morning saying we believe there is suspicious activity on your Amazon account and we have gone ahead and cancelled your transaction and disabled your account. In order to restore I had to login and reset password and do two factor authentication which I did and re ordered the gift cards.
Well apparently that was not sufficient because they once again blocked the transaction and left me a voice message stating so. I'm like WTF is going on here. So I called the number back and nothing. I think its one of those numbers that doesn't accept inbound calls. Then I get another call earlier this morning and I could barely hear the caller. To make it worse she had a thick Indian accent so extremely hard to understand. I said is this Amazon please process the gift cards its now 2 days past Christmas. I barely heard her say okay and I voiced my displeasure and hung up in disgust.
It should be noted that when I did the original transaction I had to add a new method of payment as the old credit card on file was no longer in use. I appreciate that Amazon is trying to avoid fraud but in this instance it was just plain ridiculous the chain of events. I'm done with them for good.

I just don't understand the attraction of gift cards ..... why not give cash - electronically if necessary
Giving cash to some people is unseemly. Like a child to some parents lol. My children gave me gift cards to my favourite restaurants. Sometimes to Home Depot and Petsmart where I shop continuously. Currently sitting on over $900 worth of restaurant gift cards :)

By the way, I hate online shopping and Amazon in particular with a passion. I check their prices and then go my local store for comparison. Prices are approximately the same most times. Indigo, Best Buy, Walmart, Home Depot all within 15 minute drive with helpful attendants and easy returns if I dont like item. Screw Jeff Bezos and his ilk! I have a Sobeys 5 minutes away. No need to use their online service Voila!

Haven't purchased anything from Amazon but received email to log into my account for verification or it will be disabled. I ignored it for fear of being scammed. Perhaps they have been hacked.

I've gotten the same email and ignored it to. I have never used Amazon.
Pretty sure you can buy Amazon gift cards at Shoppers if the OP needs them.

I recently bought a Waterpik from Amazon. Huge price difference compared to Toronto stores. Plus, I got a $50 credit towards my purchase by applying for one of their credit cards.

You know, in the fall of 2021 I switched phones and got locked out of my Amazon account.

I’ve never been happier. Sure I could write an email to tech support and get it back but after 16 months I’ve realized how much money I’m saving each month.

If I really really need a part or a tool, I can find it on eBay.

Bezos can go fuck himself.

In the past the only things I would typically buy from Amazon are e-books for my Kindle and music. I'll look at alternatives moving forward.

I'm a big Amazon shopper, but I hate the fact that if I'm not subscribed to Prime, they will constantly badger you to enroll. Every single time I check out, It's annoying af. I finally joined just to get rid of the messages.

Every online outlet will have some horror stories. Does that make it OK? Absolutely not.

Keep fighting the beast.....starve it to death.....

In the past 2 days, I kept getting potential scam calls from some one claiming as Amazon customer service saying they notice a $649 charge to my credit card. I hung up right away and even blocked that number from 905 area code. It didn’t stop them. They kept calling in the past 2 days, one call after another, even though I hung up on them every time. There doesn’t seem to be any way I could get rid of the unless I changed to a new unlisted phone number.

Amazon is my retailer of last resort.

If I can't find it locally in a brick and mortar store, only then will I resort to amazon.

I don't like the way Amazon treats its workers, I don't like the way Amazon puts local shops and businesses out of business, I don't like how Amazon is bad for cities and towns and I really don't like Bezos.

You need to accept what you cannot change. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme what you think anymore.

I've had some trouble with amazon in the past. Somehow after contacting support I started getting scam texts and phone calls. Maybe a coincidence...
I have contacted support after I ordered $72 worth of things that I did not receive. I texted with them and they responded quickly and got me refund quickly. Just don’t know why all of a sudden I am getting 2 days of frequent calls from scammer. Hope it won’t continue tomorrow for 3rd day. Only thing I can do and hang up on them. But they kept calling using different numbers, area code 905.
I am sick of getting calls from scammers.
