I would never know this. But it is really really loud. I can hear it down the street even. Think Harley loud.
That is awfully loud for a truck and its possibly an aftermarket part.

I call bullshit. This guy knows perfectly well his truck is loud and annoying. That's probably what he loves most about it. The same goes with bikes with loud pipes. They never feel bad about it. Just his way of saying "Look at me!" He's still pissed off his mommy stopped breast feeding him when he went off to school and wants to feel "special". So, yeah, as one poster noted, flashing him a nipple might work.
You just reminded me that I had a scouter than had broken muffler. Had fun with for a while because everyone thought I was driving this mega hog and then they look at see this mini vespa driving by. A biker gang were fooled and thought it was hilarious.
Eventually it was fixed.

I’ve decided not to do anything. Just work it out for myself and not say anything to the guy.
This is sad to me if it's based on some of the negative responses you've gotten here. But I think those negative responses are in the minority.

From your post, it's already clear you would approach it the same way I would. Kinda like "I'm sorry to even bring it up, but just so you know, I would appreciate it if you could park somewhere else, when that's possible. But if that's not convenient, no problem!". And I think doing that face-to-face is much better than leaving a note.

Anyone who has a negative reaction to that is a total psycho, and thankfully those people are rare (although sometimes it doesn't feel like it!).

It seems he visits someone over night. I assume his GF?????? But he parks at night and leaves in the morning. Not every night thankfully but enough.
I have a neighbour(townhouse) who insists on yelling at his kids early in the morning while I’m sleeping. Wakes me up. As you say, it’s not everyday but enough to get on my nerves.

Well there are a couple of thoughts in my head

1. I don’t want to make the guy feel bad if he has to park there. If he is a good guy, he would. The parking is fucked and he would have no choice sometimes. I don’t want him not to warm the truck up when needed. I’m just not imposing like that

2. He could be a dick and do it every time simply because he knows it bugs me and I don’t want to sign up for that

3. It really is a “me” problem and I guess I should just address it with myself and find the solution.

So for now - I will not say anything but who knows. I could change my mind if it happens every morning.

If it's a Diesel Pick up they are loud by nature and in the cold need to be run for about 5 minutes before driving. it is a pain but part of owning one.

I’m pretty sure it is a diesel. It is loud and smells.

I drive a diesel one ton truck. I would say it is marginally louder than a gasser. If you could hear it from your bedroom, you need to look at your insulation in your house. Same as a Harley Davidson from the factory is not loud….it’s the aftermarket pipes. So it does sound like the guy could be a dick.

Then it has aftermarket pipes. It is not my house. I don’t hear the garbage trucks or even the snow blows scraping the roads by my house. I’m in a corner so lots of traffic with no issues.

So if it aftermarket then I really don’t want to talk to him because clearly he knows and is purposely being loud. If I say something, he may get his rocks off by doing it all the time.

He was there again this morning. I just got up and went to the spare room. Hit the bathroom on the way, was all good.

I had a GMC 2500 and it was loud - I hated having to warm it up in the Winter because I felt I was disturbing the neighbourhood - in the summer month I would start it and load everything and by the time that was done start driving but in the Winter I would warm it up for about 5 minutes

My vehicle is exceptionally quiet. It's my loud mouth wife sitting in the passenger seat next to me that makes all the frickin' noise, disturbing everyone within a 50 miles radius! Went to the dealership and tried to trade her in, even offering to throw in the car for free, but they wouldn't bite. Something about impossibly low resale value according to the 'Explain Things To Your Wife Until You're Blue in the Face' book.

So update. I didn’t mean for this to happen but I just went with the flow and I think it worked.

He was late for work this morning and I saw him while I was shovelling the sidewalk area around my place. When he started his truck, I said hello and asked if they are aftermarket pipes, just starting up polite conversation. He said they were. So that answers that

We talked about the weather and the crappy kind of snow we have now. The heavy wet shit. I made mention of him being late, that is was way past 5:15am and he better hurry. He laugh and then took a second and ask “wait, how do you know?”

I showed him my bedroom window and said I hear his truck every morning when he parks there. He apologized and I played it off. Said it would be great if he didn’t park there but if he had too, no biggie. I said I just go into the other spare room and fall back asleep. That if he has to park there, do it. I said straight, I’m not a Karen and going to demand you park elsewhere. But that I was glad he knew now, thanked him for his apology and said I would of course be appreciative if, when able only, if he parked elsewhere. But said I know it is crappy parking and totally get that he will have to at some point in the future and not to feel bad if he does.

We parted ways with holiday well wishing and that was it. So let’s see if he is an ass(which I don’t think he is) and if he purposely parks there because he now knows I can hear him.

Again, it is no biggie. It is a ten steps, eyes half closed, walk to the other room to flop on the spare bed and pass back out.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think this was the best way to chat with him and because it happened to naturally, I think we are all good now.

So I wrote this a month ago and I just heard his truck for the first time since My talk with him.

Clearly a good decent guy. With the way society is today, you never know how a small thing like this can blow up so I’m glad it all worked out for the better.

What a wonderful outcome!

You handled it exceedingly well. And fortunately, he was a decent guy and was receptive to your approach. However, your approach and insight was likely highly influential in theoutcome. If you were a Karen, I can see how an otherwise decent person could get their back up. Even, if not especially, when they are in the wrong.

Happy to hear it worked out for you!
