I was a punter and noticed that a football was labelled as needing 13 lbs pressure yet soccer balls use 7 to 9 lbs pressure.

Any ideas why the difference ?

I found the soccer ball much easier to kick, a football at 13 lbs pressure is like a rock.

This is just a guess but a football is meant to be thrown, kicked, and carried. Try deflating a football to soccer ball specs and see how much more difficult it would be throw. Also, since American football was inadvertently "invented" right here in NJ during a Princeton-Rutgers London rules soccer game in 1869, the shape of the American football has changed dramatically to make it easier to throw.

A Football needs the higher pressure to properly inflate the nose of the ball. Less pressure makes it harder to fly true both being thrown and kicked.

It must be due the amount of head balls in soccer, With a super hard ball there would be more concussions.

Funny, I thought of deflategate when I first read the thread.

Below is a link to an interesting article. Some convincing evidence that deflating the ball did not provide a greater benefit. Also, it is hard to believe that Brady and company were the only team to think of this and keep it a secret for so long.
