I knew a Canadian guy whose Chinese-born wife ditched him after 15 years. (She was WAY smarter and WAY harder working). He sued her for 1/2 of her property in Divorce Court and got a small payoff. So then he booked a flight to the Phillipines to buy a new 18 year old wife. Last I heard, he was griping that he had to buy a herd of goats for her dad to get the father to sign off on the marriage.

Granted you marry a poor gir int eh Philippines and you become her families ATM machine unless you want to have a cranky wife. If you don't put your foot down and keep it to a dull roar, it's amazing how many grandparents need sugury, how many of her uncle or father's water buffalo died, or how many cousins need money for something school related... and sometimes it might even be true.
As some guy who went there said, there are two types of western dudes who have Philippine wives, ATM machines and liars.
However straight up buying a woman, fine then all black people are criminals I mean if you are going to generalize from an example to the global.

ALso 99% sure that foreigners are not buying wives in China. There are criminals who kidnap and sell but it's too other Chinese. If it happens it's... well when you have 1.4 billion people, if you are 1 in a million there are 1400 people just like you. In China much like in North America you buy your wife by letting her wealth attract her with the expectation that if you get married she will have access to it. It isn't the same as, hey papa, here is 100K bucks, let me have your daughter. It's more, Ay Ya he is rich, you should marry him, he has house, he has car.

Apparently though, you can buy a wife in Bihar and for not much money and quite frankly in those sorts of situation, unless you are a total monster, she would be better off with you. However people looking for overseas wives don't tend to go to India
