Alphonso is not in the top 20 football players.

He plays on one of the top 100 football teams. So he is in the top 1,000.
You love slagging Canada. Your opinion on this is meaningless because you are so biased.

Actually, just at face value, your analysis is laughable.

Likely Brazil in the finals. But Still think Argentina and Portugal.
Roy Keane says that Rafael Leao is a Chelsea target, of Paolo Maldini will make the London club pay through the nose if that happens. I'm expecting FIFA to fix the Argy match against Poland, the don't want to see The Cockroach bounced out of the tournament.

But where are the elite athletes going? Rep Hockey in Canada is still a top spot for them to land. And Basketball, especially in the GTA has also risen in prominence.

Does Canada even have a player in the top 100 soccer players in the world?
why do you think canada and usa women's team are top 5 in the world? Because they started to play at the same time as alll other soccer country nation as women's soccer took off in the 90's.

on the men's side things are changing fast. soccer is the number one subscriptions sport for many years now.

things have change we probably won't leadat ice hockey in a few years but we will be a top 15 country at soccer within 4 years.

It's a bloody disgrace it iz, that Scotland are not at the WC.

Irish Actor Patrick McGoohan was excellent as Edward I "Longshanks".

That will be easy to measure. When they advance in the WC. As they haven't won a game, I will hold to my position. By your own prediction they make top 16 next Cup. We can revisit it then.

Alphonso is an excellent player, and will likely become even better with age.

But there are a lot of great football players in the world.

Pretty much like the US. I always find it amusing that founders of North America just made up their own sports.
Originally "football" was played at the village level and each village had its own rules as to how you moved the ball - either kicking, punching or carrying - and how you scored points. For instance - "you can carry the ball until you reach the turnstile in Farmer Jones' field, but then you have to kick the ball until you pass the first sheep and then you can carry it again. And you score by kicking the ball over the roof of the pub beyond the field."

When the railway arrived and cities started to develop, each region developed its own "football rules" based on regular sized fields - i.e. Australia, America, Ireland. Britain developed football into 2 distinct sports - rugby and soccer. Only soccer caught on around the world.

Football was governed by the "Football Association", hence the short form "Soccer".

I still have somewhere the rules book for "Association Football" circa 1950.

Yeah, they took cricket, made some changes and called it baseball. Then they took rugby, made some changes and for the few times ball is kicked with foot called it football just to stick it to the old country.

I checked a couple of “Top 100 Players” lists on the web. Some site called FourFourTwo had Davies ranked 63rd best, another site called Ranker has him ranked 25th best. So definitely considered among the best by consensus.

And in pointing out the USA, with 10 times the population and its Elite demographic poorer showing, you add to my point. Their elite level bodies head into lucrative sports. Even the Olympics as there are scholarships in college and pay for success incentives.
7 foot, 300 pound bodies are not made for soccer, which is why you see many more blacks playing basketball and football. Several million more white kids are playing baseball and soccer at colleges all over the US. In terms of participation, the US should have finished ahead of Canada

He is ranked 34 on transfer value, but that is partly because of his young age (Messi is lower)

Alphonso is definitely excellent.

My theory for why football will never be the primary sport in USA is that the play cannot be stopped for advertising like American football and Hockey.

Baseball? Hockey? And not everyone is a line backer. Look at the receivers as an example of top athletes not in soccer.

Follow the money, the culture.

And that is a very good theory.
