If the Libs or the NDP were the government, they would have caved a long time ago and given the union(s) a blank cheque.

The Liberals under Wynne did a junior version of the same thing, earning a $100 million punishment from the courts.

But sure, keep pushing your BS.
I'm talking about the current version of the Libs and NDP. Do you actually think they have the balls to stand up to the teacher unions? Try listening to John Fraser and Marit Stiles sometimes.

Teachers are well paid and appreciated by the kids and parents they help. of course everyone remembers that horrible teacher.
Teachers are not valued by society to the degree commensurate with the very important role they play.

Its the opposite of balls when you use draconian measures on people who are in good faith negotiations with you.

I'd actually be fine with CUPE workers getting a sizeable pay raise. But it should coincide with a teacher pay freeze.
I'm tired of public sector boons coming out of private sector backs. Let the teachers shoulder someone else's pay raise for once.

Why a pay freeze for the teachers? Have they not been affected like everyone else by inflation? I don't believe they should get the same type of increase as CUPE workers but why a pay freeze? Please don't start with a teacher is overpaid. I certainly wouldn't be a happy camper with 90K year.

Questions: What are their benefits? Are they the same or almost the same as those of teachers?
To be honest, I don't know, but I don't think so. They are not part of the same pension plan, but might have similar health benefits.

But, the biggest thing about this....The Ford government is purposefully crush collective bargaining rights against this group. I mean, nobody wants a strike, but this is just dastardly. And, it's the second time they've used the notwithstanding clause. Who's to say they won't use it agin for other shit??? It is certainly problematic. And, for a group of people (conservatives) who love to cry FREEDOM!!!! This feels like anything but...

I know some people are upset about legislating the workers back to work. However, I believe that the Ford government is doing what every responsible government should be doing:
1) Keeping the kids in school.
2) Keeping a prudent eye on the public purse.

CUPE sent back a counter offer yesterday, while Ford has already decided to use the notwithstanding clause.

We've seen governments legislate workers back. This is different. Surely you can see that. Using the notwithstanding clause is a serious issue. Then there is the fact that the government pocketed money that was earmarked for schools. If it was really a concern about the public purse, why are they giving parents $200-$250 a student? Maybe they shouldn't have done away with license plate renewal fees. This is just a bullshit fight that is easy for them to frame. They can call these support workers greedy, even though they are now making less money then they did a decade ago due to inflation and a lack of raises.

1/3 of those CUPE support workers are using food banks to get by.

Stuffing his fat face with the 'fuck the constitution' notwithstanding clause pie is as easy to this fat fuck as is raiding his fridge past midnight to stuff his fat face with cheesecake.

So much back room dealing with developers, getting ready to privatize health care....
Ford is a disaster.

And aren't they also taxpayers?

I say that if the government wants to limit increases to public sector pay, they need to start by limiting their own salaries instead of inventing positions for them to earn an addition $16,000 plus expenses.

Allegedly CUPE's offer yesterday lowered the salary raise to 5ish% a year which would raise their average salary to a massive $41,000 next year. To bad Ford had already made up his mind.

After having his people author a 100+ page bill, he might a swell ram it down people's throats.

We need a rework of the not withstanding clause to limit it to real issues and I'd be happy to chip in to support all public sector workers walking off the job.
