I wonder how the public would react if the government said "OK, the union is right. We are going to hire more support workers and give them a huge raise. But unfortunately your taxes are going to go up to cover the cost".
I'm tired of hearing parents say "I will do anything for my child" until they have to open their pocket book. So many times at I work I heard this. Guys bring in their kids school cookies or other school fund raising items looking for money. How about parents just fork over the money instead of looking for hand outs from everybody.
How about if instead Ford said 'instead of sending $200 to families I'll just hire the support workers we need in schools'?

Yup, I do not believe throwing more and more teachers/educational assistants, beyond a basic level, at our kids prepare them better for life. Our kids need to be self-reliant, independent and capable of independent thought to have a successful life.
