The Mariners have only played 152 games through Monday. One of their games will only be played if it matters. They have a doubleheader scheduled for the next-to-last day of the season.

Don't bank on that. He will still be used as one of the 3 starters (which is kind of what the rotation becomes in the playoffs)
Maybe, but based on recent performances, I would pick Stripling ahead of him. I agree 4th starter only comes into play in post season if back to back series go to max and one of top three not 100% and needs extra day rest.

The Jays did well to win against the Yankees with Gausman starting. The two weakest starters in the rotation close out the series. Hoping for the old Berrios to show up.

Yes Kikuchi and Ryu have been worse but that is a very low bar. Berrios has been too unpredictable to be reliable this year. If he doesn't turn it around, he will see very little action in post season if Jays get there which is likely.
I'm guessing a 3-man rotation: - Manoah, Gausman and Berrios with a quick hook if Berrios fumbles and Stripling coming in for long relief. Koochie dropped off the post season roster or else long relief in low pressure situations.

I hope they don't mess up any of the starters the way they messed up Price in the playoffs when he was here.

Springer is 3 home runs short from second place on the list of MLB most lead off home runs. Impressive.

I would start Manoah followed by Stripling and then Gausman. Berrios is a fourth or long relief guy.

Man Bichette had a tough night. Didn't appear like he was mentally engaged with the game at all.

When are the Jays going to move him off short and on to second. 22 errors this year! That's unacceptable.

Yankees just beat them in fundamentals tonight.

Judge 4 walks......Ahem....Show some pride and go after the guy for Christs sake.

Mitch White against Gerrit Cole tomorrow....Cole has been prone to giving up 3 run homers all year. And he gets in trouble early when they get to him.

let's see if the Jays youngsters will mash him or will he over power them There's not much deception to Cole. He just comes right after you.

White has been terrible for the Jays. Might be just what Stanton and Donaldson need to see. They both looked utterly lost tonight against Toronto pitching.

Unlikely. There are fewer off days during the playoffs now, with the wildcard being more than just a one and done. This season also ends later than usual. MLB doesn't like to still be playing games in November. We'll be seeing four man rotations throughout the postseason. Too much money is invested in quality starters to risk having their arms fall off at the end of a long season.

Rays, (+1.5 games), own the tiebreaker vs Mariners, after winning 5 of the 7 head to head matchups.

Mariners might play only 161 games. Rays have a tougher end of season schedule, (Guardians, Astros, Red Sox), than Mariners, (Rangers, A's, Tigers).

The best case scenario for the Jays is if Seattle is .5 games ahead of Tampa after next Wednesday. Either Seattle would get the #5 seed and play the Wild Card round vs Jays, or they would have to play a makeup game on Thursday, October 6, to determine the #5/#6 seeding, and ideally, they would win that game, and start the Jays series after playing 10 games in 8 days.

I hate sloppy baseball. Buck, Joe and Caleb were spot on with their criticism last night. 3rd year players on a contending team should know how to slide. Charging out of the batters box should be automatic. Outfielders coming into a high fly ball have to take charge and call off infielders who are moving back. Bichette has to learn how to throw on the run or change positions. I keep expecting him to get better defensively but it's not happening.

It will be this. They'll let him start due to the fact his stuff is still dirty, and when he's on he can shut a team right down, but given how he's pitched this season, the millisecond they sense he doesn't anything other then his "A" game, he's done.
Berrios has one Major League relief appearance in his career.

The only way I see him pitching relief in the post season, other than mop-up, is if they started Matt Gage as an opener, with Berrios knowing in advance that he was going to come in for the third inning. Gage was a starter in the minors and the Mexican League through 2019. Starting a southpaw then switching to a righthander for the bottom of the order, (best case scenario), who would then pitch multiple innings could be a good 4th starter strategy. Berrios might do better if the first hitters he faced were not necessarily the top of the lineup.

I can't see Kicuchi being on the postseason roster. Possibly they'd activate Nate Pearson, if he's ready.

I've heard rumblings about this, but nobody seems to know how he's doing.
He's only pitched 15 innings at AAA, including 1 start. Still walking too many but the arm strength is there as he's whiffed 19 batters. Might be an option in relief.
