Probable cause is very different than a due process-based conviction. Innocent until proven guilty is a fundamental principle at play here. Too many women are too quick convict a male accused based on speculative testimony rather than clear evidence. Their overt gender bias is laughable.
Again, what do false accusations have to do with this case?

(and we all know how the legal system works - once he is identified, he and his lawyer will have their opportunity to argue his case - until he is caught, the courts have decided that the threat he poses is enough to release his image despite his age)

... But a lot of posters here have already convicted him because multiple women have come forward claiming they were assaulted by a kid on a bike. ...
Last I checked, conviction was the duty of the courts. Are you upset that police getting permission to release his image suggests there is some meat to this story?

Not at all, nor did I suggest that. Actually I said the opposite. I agreed that there must be something or they wouldn't have released the image of a minor. I'm starting to think that reading comprehension is a skill too many need to cultivate, especially if they want to comment on others' comments.

I love how you try and argue against a study that you didn't bother reading.
The only thing that is available without paying is the abstract and with just that their criticism is fair.
The study only looked at the histories of people who did escalate.
The problem is that while the abstract says this argues for early intervention, we don't actually see how they build their argument (is there other literature? do they acknowledge that this recommends a longitudinal study following a cohort over time to see if they escalate? Does it show a pattern of escalation meaning that intervention should be targeted when the escalation pattern begins to manifest and not at the first inappropriate action? )

We just don't have enough from it as it is and I'm not paying 40 bucks just to find out what it says.

T.O.
And even with the police and public being aware of him, he is still commiting sexual assaults.

This lends credence to the fact that he cannot control himself and will likely escalate.

This boy needs some serious disciplining, while he's still 5' 4" with a slim build.

Yes, I tried to make this point earlier in the thread but it was too rational for some people to understand.

Where is the study on the folks who did not escalate to the next Paul Bernardo?

They probably exist, but they are much harder to do.
The best way would probably involve getting a bunch of people who are first time offenders and following them for several years.
But doing that in a way that you weren't influencing them would be difficult. (Since it would be hard to keep them unaware they were being studied.)

Of course, researcher are aware of these limitations and discuss them openly and combine evidence from multiple threads to try and and get better info.
When all you have is the abstract, though, you don't see any of that discussion.

I remember when they caught the man who murdered young Holly Jones. They discovered he was a porn addict.

Conclusion: All porn addicts are potentially murderers of young girls.

Isn't that a ridiculous conclusion?

Who knows what this kid has done, maybe he is victimizing his siblings. The cops are probably not telling the whole story because they do not want a lynch mob. Some community / school / family probably knows who this kid is.

We are not talking about watching porn, this kid is actively sexually assaulting women at a young age. This is so far beyond a teenage porn addiction.

He is even continuing his assaults after his photo was released in the news and given to the police.
Obviously his need to commit sexual assaults is overriding his fear of getting caught, meaning he cannot control his overpowering compulsions.

Sexually assaulting women in a serial manner is not just about sexual gratification. If it was, he would not be risking his freedom to continue to do this. There are darker psychological issues at play here.
He is spending time in more remote areas like trails to seek out a victim who is alone and isolated, this shows predatory intent.

This may get him off for now but what happens when it doesn't anymore and he gets bored and feels invincible?
If he isn't caught and doesn't get help as well as face consequences, do you honestly think he will not escalate?

He might be watching porn and acting out in real life. We don't know until he's caught and maybe not even then.

Are there any studies that show watching porn leads to acting out in real life? If yes, is it very common or a rarity?

He is already acting out in real life. We are beyond that.

I do not care what led him to the point of commiting physical sexual assault, that is for his future psychologist to figure out.
I am sure it is much more complex than just porn, if porn even has anything to do with it.

What I do care about are his current actions and possible future actions if he is not caught.

I never said porn leads to acting out in life, so why are you asking me?
