To me, upcharge equals me smiling, nodding and saying I will just have the low level standard session since I’m already there and naked and not ever repeating.

I completely agree. It's kills the mood for sure. I never pay and just never see the girl again. I don't think they realize how much business they loose from doing this. It's not a money thing. It's just kills the vibe completely. We all know what we are paying for no need to keep reminding us.
If I'm already there, I'll stay and enjoy what I can. Me being there means that I've searched this provider, I did my due diligence, she's probably hot and can do the basic job, which is fine for me.
The extras will make me repeat with this girl, if I liked my global experience and if I didn't had to pay for whatever extra available that I was looking for.
I had girls who offered extras for upcharges that I didn't took but they gave me a great MA limits experience and I repeated several times after that.

I usually just ask about rules and options at the very beginning of a session when seeing a new MA. Even if things are a bit more restrictive I just accept it and enjoy.
It is best to ask MA directly. If the extra money for extra items is way more than you are willing to pay then move on.

Now I find a lot of MA's will tell you up front what they will do in the way of services and the cost. I also know that the upcharge rates tend to drop if you are seen as a "regular". Sometimes the high price at the start is to thin out the herd and find the serious punters. The problem is that often the upcharge, when you factor in the door fee you have already paid, is considerably more than an upscale, higher end SP. And it is in a more restrictive and less conducive space that you would find with one of those SPs. Of course many of us all of a sudden, despite knowing better, let the little head over rule the big head.

Now, I never book with a MA who is upcharging. Just don’t want to hear the menu at beginning, it will ruin the whole session.
Agreed, I think the same way but I prefer indy massages. When she gets it all at the start, she feels at ease and the session feels easy going.
One way around evasive answers is to simply ask "if I were to take all of your options, how much would it cost?" Some providers have a shyness about talking about specific services, but don't mind talking about generalities.
Yes, and during the session you will find out that "all options" include touching above the waste only. I had this unfortunate experiences with girls in Brass (now Alpha) when they claim they offer GFE but during the session their definition of GFE was just a regular body slide and hugs without even LFK (forget about DFK or DATY). So, if the girl does not want to talk specifics - assume they are not included (or included at a premium above whatever rate you agree to pay for what you believe are "all the options").
And just to rant: Brass is like Uber: it started great with full GFE massage (i.e., everything except BJ and FS) included by almost all girls without extra pay (I tipped at the end anyway), but now in Alpha tips are expected or even required for the GFE massage. I guess, the "no tips expected" model does not work in North America.
