Anybody have any experience?

1) Do they actually work?

2) Where to get one?

Here
Canned tuna, cat food, will work. But if I were you I'd call critter catcher much safer. Google it

I spoke to a couple of neighbours.

The raccoon (with her babies, if any) will leave if I turn on some bright lights in the garage as coons don't like bright lights. Also, play a radio that has human voices like 24 hour news and/or talk radio.

If you have to clean up their feces use a face mask and gloves, cuz there can be nasty bacteria and parasitic stuff in it.

I believe you have to release them out in the country many kilometers from home, to prevent them from returning to you.
They are easy to catch. Use peanut butter.

However, most jurisdictions have rules about how far you can take them to release. The federal limit is one kilometer, I believe Hamilton has a lower limit.

I used a trap and caught about 10 of them.

Bait was chicken wings.

I drove about 15 kilometers away and released them all in the forest.

I am not saying you did something wrong, but it is actually not legal. It is practically a death sentence to bring a raccoon to an area outside of their range.

What type of area to relocate to? First of all, laws may prohibit the release on public lands. As for what area is best for the animal, that's a matter of debate. A lot of people think the raccoon should be taken out to "the woods". Many people suggest an undeveloped area with water sources nearby. Still other people argue that animals caught in urban or suburban areas are used to such environments and will fare better in such areas - but they will probably cause the same problems they caused in your area. I think that relocation is hard on animals, no matter where they go. They are used to their home territory. A wildlife rehabber wrote me this: "The only problem is that we do not recommend that people take them off and release them. We want them to stay in their own territory especially with babies! We recommend they fix the whole and then release them right there, The research shows that the survival rate for the first 2 weeks in a new territory is poor."

It actually worked out for the best and one of them went on to star in a major film feature.

As long as you release them humanely, it's okay. I beleive killing them will land you in jail, rightfully so. Some Asian guy whacked a bunch of racoons on the head to kill them. He was lucky he wasn't jailed. https://www.thestar.com/news/crime/...h_shovel_pleads_guilty_to_animal_cruelty.html
Thanks for the post. I come from a family of hunters in the US. I'd shoot them without hesitation and wrap them up for garbage day being truly be oblivious to the potential repercussions.

Well, I hope you put them in your Green Bin, in a biodegradable garbage bag!
