Democratic lawmakers and their environmentalist allies have a laundry list of executive actions on climate change that they want President Biden to take because Congress can’t get the job done.

Mr. Biden is being urged to test the limits of his executive authority by declaring a national climate emergency under the National Emergencies Act.

Short of that, Democrats are presenting Mr. Biden with scores of far-reaching proposals for executive action. They want him to:

• Direct the Department of Justice to get involved in ongoing local and state climate litigation against the fossil fuel industry.

• Invoke the Defense Production Act to churn out renewable energy technologies and solar panels.

• Reinstitute a crude oil export ban.

• Restrict fossil fuel imports.

• End domestic and international federal fossil fuel subsidies.

• End oil and natural gas lease sales for federal lands and waters.

• Prevent new fossil fuel infrastructure projects.

• Strengthen vehicle emissions standards.

• Electrify the USPS vehicle fleet.

• More resources for identifying and enforcing potent methane leaks; finalize new methane standards for new and existing oil and gas operations to cut methane pollution at least 65% below 2012 levels by 2025.

• Institute a carbon border tariff on imports from countries with worse emission levels than the U.S.

• Redirect federal money to transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.

Kat Maier, national coordinator of Fridays for Future, the youth-led international climate group formed by activist Greta Thunberg, said executive action is the president’s last chance to stay true to his campaign promises on global warming.

“If President Biden was ever serious about being a climate president, this is his last chance,” Ms. Maier said. “Everyone from Republicans to Democrats, institutions to individuals, has shown their hand, and we know who stands on the side of climate action. There’s nothing to wait for anymore, no compromises to make anymore. It’s time for the bold action.”

Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer, who called for a climate emergency declaration within the first week of Mr. Biden taking office, said his position was unchanged.

“We’re urging the administration to do things that it can do administratively, and we’re going to look at everything that we can do,” the New York Democrat said.

When it comes to the public, more voters say they support Congress acting on climate change than the president. A recent poll from the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication found that 61% of Americans said Congress should do more compared to 57% who said their governor and 52% who said Mr. Biden should do more.

Why not throw gasoline on the inflation bonfire ?

those executive orders ( the subsidies one is fictious) would drive oil to $100 to $150 / barrel & push inflation into double digit territory
such actions would accelerate the approaching recession and turn it into a nightmare depression, hurting millions in the US and billions world wide

Why have the democrats forsaken basic economics?

sleepy Joe is between a rock and a hard place
Destroy the economy or lose the support of the lunatics in his party
He should keep his pen in his pocket

A recent poll from the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication
Somehow I just do not think their polling results are unbiased or representative

Did they miss the SCOTUS EPA decision? However, Americans need to be taught a lesson. Actually, the whole first world needs a lesson. Joe needs to sharpen that pen he got from his friend Robert Byrd and start "greening " America. A couple of years of green madness should break up the modern Democratic Party.

I always assume it is implicitly understood that climate policies and
actions are just meant to make voters feel good. No sane political leaders not
even the greenest ones will want their voters to get a taste of what real green
policies are like.

Climate actions needed to cut emission are actually straightforward. Biden could impose
quotas on imports of fossil fuel, regulate drilling in shale and ban drilling in deep water
Gulf of Mexico. Placing a ban on LNG exports to Asia should mitigate the impact
of drops in crude oil supply. Here in Canada a gradual reduction of crude oil imports
from the Middle East to the east cost over a time period like a decade in conjunction
with cancellation of rebate payment on carbon tax would certainly result in substantial
emission reduction.

Teaching voters a lesson on green madness is even more insane than for
our leaders to tell them explicitly all the climate promises were only made
to buy votes from climate sheeple.

Seriously and with all due respect (I do enjoy your posts), Biden wants action on climate, NOW????!!!!! I was joking in my post, of course, but further disrupting the economy that's in the crapper? So, far he has been wrong on almost everything that has to do with the economy. Is there anyone with a half a brain who think that there's anything positive on the other side of those green proposals?

Biden could be too senile to have realised what he said about his climate policy
is bogus. Trudeau and his gang OTOH would fully understand why emission
reduction targets need to be set to sucker gullible voters.

These Climate Change Deniers are readily buying all the disinformation. Remember, that their cult leader once called Climate Change an actual "hoax". Now with all these record temperatures and fires burning out of control they believe that there is a Climate Change, but it is 'Nature's Occurrence" and nothing to do with manmade global greenhouse emissions. They are beyond redemption in the manner that they keep on moving the goal posts. At one time to them there was no "Global warming" but just a natural cycle. Now that all the studies verifies the Global Warming Scenario, again it is supposed to be just Nature's gift to us!!

True, but we have to remember there are two parts to that crowd.
Those knowingly selling the big lie about fossil fuels and those who are the marks.
