Edward Lake, the father of three children killed by drunk driver Marco Muzzo in 2015, has died by suicide.
His children, nine-year-old Daniel Neville-Lake, his five-year-old brother Harrison, their two-year-old sister Milly and the children’s 65-year-old grandfather, Gary Neville, were killed in the September 2015 crash in Vaughan.
Muzzo was the driver, sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016 after pleading guilty to four counts of impaired driving causing death and two of impaired driving causing bodily harm.
At Muzzo’s sentencing hearing,Edward said in a statement that he had suffered from suicidal thoughts and intense anxiety since the crash, and the loss has affected his marriage.
Muzzo was granted full parole on Feb. 9, 2021 despite devastating impact statements from the Neville-Lake family.
Both Edward and the childrens’ mother Jennifer Neville-Lake had urged the board to not grant Muzzo parole, saying he has not truly taken responsibility or shown remorse for his actions.
They had also urged the board to require him to live in a different province should he be granted parole.
“He scares me. The thought of him being out on the street frightens me greatly. I get panicked and anxious thinking about him,” Jennifer told the board at the time of hearing.
Part of his parole conditions required him avoid the victim’s families and not to reside in York Region where the crash occurred or Brampton where the Lakes live.

Jennifer shared a post on Twitter Sunday on Father’s Day with a photo of the children’s gravestone with a tweet that said, “Father’s Day 2022. This shouldn’t be real. It can’t be.”

Jennifer also tweeted that the family is also currently engaged in an ongoing civil suit against the Muzzo family.

This is a tough one. Muzzo has been by all accounts a model prisoner. He's shown remorse for his actions. He's complied with all the conditions of his day parole. And he quit drinking since the accident.
But he destroyed a family with utterly reckless actions. 3 times the legal limit is excessively drunk. And 4 innocent people paid with their lives. Now 5 with the loss of the father to suicide. Truly heartbreaking.
I think the criminal code needs to be adjusted in cases like this when there are multiple casualties. He should be ineligible for parole and made to serve the full 10 year sentence.

He didn't even go to real prison. What prison do you know has mini golf and a barbecue for visitors?

How will the wife handle it, will she be next, hope not. But she's all alone now.
Maybe she will get involved in anti drunk driving groups and maybe she will be the force in changing the laws or maybe she will become a spokesperson to the college kids teaching them that those bar nights drinking with the boys can lead to this type of devastation .Theres a lot of good she can do in the name of her boys and husband. May she find strength to carry on and never let this tragedy be forgotten to those men and women who carelessly drive drunk on a regular basis until caught. May his soul RIP.

It's funny because so many people blame drunk drivers for their actions, and while they very much accountable for their actions, I blame society and the government.

We've legalized and drug, we promote that drug, and then blame people who make bad choices because of the drug or get addicted to it.

You don't want issues with addiction? Don't want people drunk driving? Don't legalize and promote the drug.

Yeah, let's blame the government. Or the police, while we're at it. Anything, but the individual. Let's promote zero accountability fot anyone's actions.

Give me a break

I'll give you as many breaks as you want, but stop being so naive about the consequences of legalizing a drug. Clearly nobody you know has died from alcohol addiction or seen how it can ruin lives and families.

I had an uncle who was more like a father figure to me (because my father died when I was a baby.) He was an alcoholic, which contributed to his early death. My mother was an alcoholic which contributed to her early death. I am not naive and please don't tell me that I don't know anyone in this situation or how it ruins lives and families. I've seen it. I've lived with it. I know. And I don't blame society or the government or the fact that alcohol is legal for what happened to them. My uncle and mother made choices - personal choices - and they lived with and died from the consequences of those choices. Fortunately neither of them ever drove drunk and killed anyone but if they had - it would have been their fault for making the choices that got them into that situation. No one else's. Spare me the ridiculous tripe about how "they're accountable but it's not their fault."
Apparently you are naive...lol.

Who said it wasn't his fault?? Who said he shouldn't be accountable for his actions??

So your uncle and mother both had issues with alcohol, but yet you don't think there's an issue to debate if this shit should be legal because of the problems it causes?

You ever wonder why the U.S had prohibition?

Spare me tripe about how we as a society aren't addressing the root problem here.

We as a society say "here you go! hears a drug. Buy it as much as you want. Abuse it." Companies that sell it can even advertise about how it makes life great and get you hooked on it as long as at the end of the commercial they throw in the quiet subtle disclaimer "drink responsibly" and then when people get addicted and fuck up because of it, we say "well that's on you".
