The NBA had a problem with refs determining the outcome of games several years ago, and the one guy that got caught…. Think hockey is any different? Think legalizing the sports betting, and it’s global reach destroys sports?

Professional Cricket has had several scandals involving collusion with gamblers, but none involving the umpires, and none which directly affect the match result.

Some players have received long suspensions or lifetime bans for a practice known as spot fixing. In brief, one or more players agrees to perform some action at a specific point in the match, and a gambler places a bet with long odds that that action will happen at that specific time. In the Pakistan cricket spot fixing scandal, two bowlers on the Pakistan Test cricket squad bowled illegal deliveries at pre-arranged points in the match, in exchange for bribes which might have been comparable to their annual salaries for playing on the International team.

Historical boxing was most fixed/rigged sport in N. America, it was basically run by organized crime. Team sports aren't as easy to fix or rig, except for maybe one player rigging his own personal stats for player prop bets.
Refs can determine outcomes, as they do in the NBA, FIFA, and apparently Leaf playoff games.
It wouldn't surprise me if the NHL is fixing games. Hard not to think that Leafs game 7 was fixed, I mean 99% of the time during the regular season that pick by Holl never gets called on the Tavares disallowed goal. In game 6 Killorn held Matthews' jersey for like 6 seconds or more and never got called, %99 of the time in the regular season that is called for holding.

agree, but even in that situation it might not work, eg. he gives up a few early, gets yanked, the backup is solid and his team bounces back.
