Good article here rating all the deadline moves across the NHL this year. Interesting to read the MTL grade of A for the new management team, and to see the MTL 'system' directly referenced. If ESPN calls it out, I guess it must really be a 'thing' after all. 😜

https://www.espn.com/nhl/insider/story/_/id/33572268/nhl-trade-deadline-2022-grades-all-32-teams#mtl
They referenced "system" as in players who play in the AHL who work their way up...its not some historical playbook that has been passed on from Toe Blake...

It's easy with you...show how outdated your opinion is.
What you really meant to say is that trolling comes easy to you, and you enjoy doing it, and don't really discriminate who you troll. Crack on, buddy. Fill yer' boots!

Scabs are in last...they need to tinker with 'the system'.
Their system is to live in the past and remember the glory days when 2 GMs and 2 coaches provided the majority of their cups.

In 109 seasons they've won 24 Cups. 16 of those came between 1953 and 1979, a 27 year period. That period was highlighted by the work of GMs Franks Selke and Sam Pollock (15 cups) and coaches Toe Blake and Scotty Bowman (13 cups). Once Scotty Bowman left after the '79 Cup, because he got passed over by the legendary Irving Grundman for the GM position, they've won a grand total of 2 cups in the ensuing 43 years, the result of no good GM and no good coach

There is no Montreal system. They win when they have good management, who knows how to acquire people, and good coaching who are good strategists and motivators. If there is a "system" why did only those 4 guys know about it in a 109 year period. (Apologies to Dick Irvine who won 3 times as coach.)

It was similar when the Leafs won 9 cups in 23 years and (Smythe and Imlach) and Detroit (Jack Adams) with 5 cups and 13 years. No team wins without good management.

The spirit of Montreal Canadiens fans is too “live in the past”.

I'm going to refrain from bashing the Habs until this golden generation of Leafs get by the 1st round. The Habs beat us in a 7 game series last season. Nothing to gloat about.

Habs had a tough season this year. That said, they have 5-8 super high end prospects that if they can bring onto the roster and develop a bit at the pro level could make a Montreal a major force to be reckoned with in 2-3 seasons. Future looks very bright in Montreal, regardless of the disaster that has been the 2021-22 season.

Their play has nothing to do with the Leafs. The vaunted Habs have won nothing for almost 30 years and have been mediocre (most years) to horrid (this year).

They are more than worthy of any bashing. IIRC, the Leafs were getting bashed plenty by the late 90's.

This season is the Hockey God's punishment for the Hab's rigging the HOF for Guy Carbonneau to be inducted...

By playing all the way into the Stanley Cup Final in 2021, Montreal accomplished more in the playoffs last year alone than the Leafs have accomplished in the last 54 years. Period.
Even the year before Montreal had a surprise victory over Pittsburgh in the qualifying round, getting them into the playoffs... while Toronto lost out to the vaunted Blue Jackets.

No Cup but the Habs did win 6 series in the past 10 years and several more in the past 20 and 30 years. I think the Leafs haven't won a series in the past 17 years.

Overall I like how the post Dominic Ducharme and Marc Bergevin era has went.

When Ducharme was fired the team was a total mess. Not only were they losing, they were getting destroyed and playing with zero passion. More importantly Cole Caufield was really struggling and Suzuki was as well.

St. Louis came in and brought some passion to the team — most importantly he lit a fire under the younger core players Caufield, Suzuki, and Romanov. They started to win quite a bit more and their draft status was getting hurt a bit.

They then played a run of generally strong teams and while losing they were mostly competitive and played well enough. They have started to lose a bit more since the deadline but they are playing with younger players and are still much more competitive in losses than they were earlier in the year.

So we get a top pick and the confidence Is better now. Also Hughes/Groton had a very good deadline and restocked the team well.

The next view years will still be tough as there are a number of shit stain contracts thanks to Bergevin. But as long as those overpaid veterans that are hard to move are strong enough in the room, they will be good buffers as the Habs reload over the next few years.

And thankfully we don’t have Bergevin and Timmons around to blow top 5 or top 10 picks … or trade good prospect D like Sergachev for an underperforming winger — guess Bergevin was not following the system

But it was still just a one-off, an outlier. Just because the Leafs have not won since '67, it does not mean that Montreal's record in the last 30 years is anything to gloat about.

It's not a contest of who is more shit.
