Well, using that analogy, my point was that at an individual level, a severe injury is a severe injury. Doesn't matter if you're a pro or an enthusiast. Just because you're a pro doesn't mean that you expect and accept the fact that in the course of playing a game someone may inflict a serious physical injury on you outside the reasonable conduct of a game. Borowiecki should not expect and accept that based on the normal rough and tumble of a pro game, it's reasonable that Malkin deliberately cross-checks him in the face knocking out his teeth, causing jaw damage, concussion, maybe even kill him. He shouldn't expect and accept that any more than joe average should expect it in the beer league. Being a Professional doesn't mean you need to expect extraordinary violence and extraordinary injuries during the course of a typical game.

If sending a message means breaking your opponent's face, I'm sorry, I'm not on board with that. It's not what hockey players sign up for. They are all consistently clear on that. That's why these types of incidents are few and far between, and why player safety severely punishes the worst and most frequent offenders.
Settle down...you are overreacting...Borowiecki didn't suffer a severe injury, he didn't lose any more teeth, did not suffer a concussion, he did not suffer jaw damage, and he didn't almost didn't get killed...

Actually he did suffer facial lacerations, he lost his teeth, and in fact was knocked right out of the game. He was subsequently monitored for concussion symptoms, and later cleared to play the next game. Based on the actual cross-check by Malkin (watching the video of the incident) he was just lucky he didn't also suffer a broken upper jaw, broken nose, an eye injury, or some other severe head trauma. The league agreed, and suspended Malkin for four games as punishment.

See how it all works out?
Malkin got what was coming to him and so did Borowiecki without suffering any real damage and not missing any games.
Borowiecki was also lucky he didn't catch Covid or develop bone cancer during that incident,
but I doubt he will be busting Malkin's balls any time soon either.

Yeah, it certainly all worked out for everyone concerned. Everyone loves a happy ending.

Monitored for concussion, haha, routine procedure...I haven't read anything that he lost teeth...he got a few stiches...I'm not saying anything against the suspension but you are calling the injuries severe and saying he almost killed him...he got four games, what more do you want.

Read more, he lost his teeth. I guess what you're saying is that a cross-check in the mouth that knocks out your teeth is not to be considered severe. Ok, whatever.

I also didn't say he 'almost got killed'. I said the potential for extremely severe injury, including the potential for a fatal injury was there based on the violence of the hit to the head Malkin inflicted on Borowiecki. I also said Borowieki was lucky that it didn't actually reach that severity. Just watch the video. If the cross-check had landed a few inches in a different spot, the injury could have been dramatically different. Just dumb luck it wasn't. But that still doesn't make it ok.

I wonder how you and Mello would feel if someone cross-checked you in the face and knocked out your teeth. Guess you'd just think - whatever, it's not severe - and happily trot off to the dentist to have your mouth overhauled, which is a lifelong consequence you need to deal with after the fact, no matter what suspension the offender is given. You think Borowiecki thinks that that outcome from Malkin's cross-check to his face was completely warranted, and is just part of the game? You think he thinks that a four game suspension is enough of a punishment to offset the fact he'll be dealing with his fucked up teeth the rest of his life? Doubt it.

You two sound like armchair QB's who never really played any kind of serious contact sport, or suffered any serious sports injury inflicted by an opposing player. If you had, neither of you would just be laughing it all off as a joke.

-I read about 5/6 articles and none mentioned he lost teeth, you're making that up
-you said "maybe even kill him"...post #1029
-risk of being injured is part of the game...risk of being suspended is also part of the game
-Borowiecki probably doesn't think it was warranted but I also don't hear him doing any whining about it
-I think a 4 game suspension fits the crime

Your personal insults of "You two sound like armchair QB's who never really played any kind of serious contact sport" are the sign of guy losing a debate while not knowing what kind of background I have, making that up also.

You would have given Malkin what...10-15 games, arrest him?

It was goon hockey.

If it didn't happen on the ice of a pro hockey game, it would be assault with a (deadly?) weapon and Malkin would need to lawyer up after being cuffed and spending the night in jail.

Well, it was on the ice...he didn't cross check him at the bar...

Every guy who's ever punched a guy would be in jail too, every cross check, high stick, would be an assault with a deadly weapon.
Marchand would be charged with sexual assault for licking a guy, on and on...

2 guys get into a dispute and have an altercation. No charges.

One guy hits the other with a baseball bat in the face, cops are taking him away.

So what are you saying...Malkin should be charged with a crime?

Also, both had hockey sticks and both were using them...

1 - First article that came up when I searched it. There are others. Learn to use a computer.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles...ed-4-games-for-cross-checking-mark-borowiecki

2 - yeah, I said maybe even kill him. you can play all the word games you want. What part of that is ambiguous or hard to understand? Based on what the video shows, yes, had the blow been in a slightly different spot on the face, yes, he could have been killed. Sorry that is unclear to you.

3 - Risk of being injured in the normal course of the game is expected and accepted. It's a contact sport. Someone deliberately and with malice purposely inflicting a severe injury with potential for lasting, debilitating, or even fatal consequences is not an expectation any player in any pro sport would say 'is just part of the game', except maybe combat sports like boxing and MMA.

4 - Who exactly should he be 'whining' to?

5 - Sorry, but your perspective on this clearly indicates you have no first hand knowledge to draw from, regardless of your claims.

6 - I already said, I would have seen him gone for the balance of the regular season. Clearly you're either not really reading and/or understanding all the posts made in this thread.

7 - You conveniently (per your usual) ignored my question: how would you feel if you were deliberately and maliciously cross-checked in the mouth and had your face permanently re-arranged? Just all part of the game right? Probably you deserved it anyway, right? You sure as shit wouldn't be whining it about to anyone, right? Fuck off with your stupidity.

1-the article says "appeared"...the other five make no mention of it

2-I said you overreacted by implying he could have killed him...you did say it

3-there was no severe injury

4-he wasn't whining, you are

5-so you are deciding as the 'all mighty' on others views...how arrogant are you...and already decided that my knowledge isn't worthy...but yours is indisputable...

6-Pittsburgh has 7 games left...he got 4...it's not like he got 1-2

7-I wouldn't like it but for $2 million a year I would accept the risk

-you sure don't handle losing debates well...you should have lots of practice at it.

Read my earlier post.

How many guys used his to hit the other guy in the face and injure him?
Ok, so you think he should be charged with a crime...that would be over the top...NHL can handle their own discipline.

Lots and lots of players use their sticks to hit guys in the face...some get injured some don't.

I defy you to show me where I said that.

NHL can handle their own discipline.
Let's ask Steve Moore what he says about that?

Lots and lots of players use their sticks to hit guys in the face...some get injured some don't.
And that's goon hockey. And the fact that, as you are saying, so many guys do is proof that their discipline is a joke. Intentional stick to the face should be minimum 20 games.
