I will remind you that Obama faced more anger and slander than any other President because he was black. The whole birther movement was race-based. The Tea Party and the whacko right-wing really started when Obama because President, and that is why they elected a white supremacist like Trump.
You want to pretend America (or Canada for that matter) are post-racial. That is not the case. Yes, thing have improved from the 1950s, but there is systemic racism in our society. That is why groups like BLM exist. It isn't that black lives are more important, its because many whites don't seem them as equal at all. They don't care if inner city schools are underfunded and shit. They don't care if predominantly black communities have lead in their drinking water. They don't care that black communities were red lined and forced to grow in areas with bad environments, like near highways or rail yards. They don't care if the legal system is tilted against them, where they get more severe sentences or are denied bail compared to whites facing similar offences. They don't care if black communities are under r siege from the police, who act like an occupying army. They don't care that there is barriers based just on their names, or because they decide to have natural hair. They just want to pretend one tiny quote from MLK has been realized - that we will judge people by the content of their character, not by the colour of their skin. But we sure as fuck are not there.

So, let's go over it again for the ones who have difficulty following along. BLM is not about violence. Unfortunately, people outraged by police violence did violent things as well. Do they support BLM? Possibly. But, remember, there were a number of right-wingers arrested for arson and other offences at the BLM protests in Portland and Minneapolis. As for Antifa, one of the right's favourite bogeyman, is not an actual organized group.
Now, I will say, violence tends to undercut the importance of the BLM message, which is why they do not call or support it. Peaceful protesters rarely (if ever) become violent. But, you cannot pick who joins a protest, so when violent folks join in, they all get lumped together.
