GTA & Thereabouts...
I'm a Gen Xer, but I think more like my Boomer parents. I pay my bills. Live modestly/comfortable. What I have now is more than my parents ever had. Do I want a new car? Yes! Do I need one? No! Especially, when the new model is pretty much the same thing as what I have already. I'll save money and take it to the mechanic to keep my older model going.

I use my Apps for everyday needs, but I still prefer shopping in store. TikTok has completely found me and perfected its algorithm on me... I'll watch home improvement videos and then videos on hot MILFs.

No IG. No Facebook. No twitter. No tiktok. No mobile banking ever. No uber.
I use Amazon to check prices. Then I make my purchases at local WalMart, Best Buy, Home Depot, Petsmart, etc. where there are attendants to assist. Prices are almost same as Amazon. Support local not the jerk Jeff Bezos.
Sobeys, Farm Boy, etc. all close by. In person shopping.
Car paid off. No loans of any kind. Always pay off my visa at the end of the month.
Good investments. Can afford the hottest babes. I am an unrepentant Baby Boomer :)
You shop at Walmart and think Bezos is a jerk ( well he vary May well be) however that fucking Walton family is one of the largest reasons that small town North American has lost their downtowns (and all the great stuff that comes with it). They were a part of early trend of large scale imports from China - basically fucking local manufacturing and at the same time their own customers who continued to buy from them - in a word CRAZY! “THE LOWEST PRICE” - is not the law it’s part of our demise.

The boomers had it tough. There are/were so many of them that the competition to get admitted to university and for jobs is/was brutal.

My dad who's a baby boomer dropped out of school in 9th grade. However he NEVER had a problem getting a job infact I think he had a job in every single trade going. When it was time to focus on the future he didn't struggle like my generation X in buying the best cars and big homes because thats when rent gas and electricity were cheap. The cost of living always seemed to be levelled out even with minimum wage. He then opened a business and stuck with it for the next 30 years. Infact many of his baby boomer friends had businesses for over 20 years not like how its been the last ten years here where so many new businesses just dont seem to be able to stay afloat. Now when someone tells me they opened a business without trying to sound negative I cant but help think how long will they last? its a whole different world for the younger generation now. I'll give you an example my neighbour drives cab and he says no young people call old school cabs anymore because they love the app for uber and uber lets them pile in 6 of their University friends in one car. Uber drivers do not care about the rules they cater to young ones. Where if they called a cab they'd only be allowed 2 people in each cab. so they'd need multiple cars. Cabs are now considered old school to the young ones.

No future generation will have it as easy as the baby boomers.

They could afford a house, car, kids, sending kids to university.... on a single middle class salary.

Yet they are still at the head of most government dictating policies that still enrich them like crazy.

They are mostly racist as fuck, rich as fuck and still thinks all other generations are snowflake pussies.

Fuck the boomers ;)
Spoken like an entitled little snowflake.

If you have my education level, experience, work ethic and initiative, you can have every bit as much or more than me.

But if you don't.....

Well that's on you.

Local manufacturing was when boys from high school without any skills went directly to cushy $20/hr jobs with huge benefits. Most of the time their grandparents/parents worked at the same factories. Nepotism reigned. And clothing, toys, utensils, etc. were therefore exorbitantly priced, hitting lower income families especially hard. Walmart, Amazon, etc. have done society a huge favour by making goods more affordable for all of us. Just because Jeff Bezos is a jerk doesnt mean he is doing something wrong. He quit his cushy job and took a chance on a new form of business. Cheers to him and Sam Walton, who put Sears, Kmart and the other highly expensive stores out of business to our benefit.

Now, you have to have a skill to prosper, just ask yourself and all the folks on this forum spending $300/hr on the girls if they have skills. They will tell you. There are millions of vacancies for mechanics, welders, nurses, software engineers, etc. Cant get enough of them and have to bring in these workers from overseas. This is why the heads of Alphabet (Google), Microsoft, Twitter, IBM and others were born in India.

Find the Chinese in Richmond Hill and Markham and Indians in Mississauga and Brampton. And you will learn about entrepreneurship, creating their own businesses and living in heaven compared to where they came from. There are tons of opportunities for the skilled and the dynamic. Only dinosaurs complain about the new era. From their graves!

Listen to you... Me me me me me... The world does not evolved around you. Good for you if you made it good. You had it all for you.

But now it's time for boomer to shut up because younger generation won't have it as good as you no matter their education, work ethic and initiative. They will have to be even better then you were.

I hadnt seen your post before I posted mine. But you are the type of folks I was talking about. Congratulations. I have a PhD in chemical engineering from McGill. Was fired 20 years ago and then started my own company. Hard, hard work - 18 hour days. Working couple of hours a week now and earning more than I ever did. I am in my sixties. Cheers

One major factor to bear in mind is that the boomers will live longer, healthier lives than their parents did. The leading killers, CV disease, cancer, etc are now less common (on a per capita basis) and happen later because of medication. Gene therapy is on the horizon. And nobody with an IQ over 100 smokes anymore (cigarettes anyway). Getting a leg over an SP is only hard before the hip replacement. Viagra takes care of most other problems (if you have them). My only fear is dying in a massage parlour. That is, before I've cum the second time. I like to get my money's worth. Yep, it's a pretty world, until that brilliant flash appears on the horizon....
Good. The longer they live the harder and longer they can keep working. No retirement for them, just more work.

I was out with my best friend tonight
and hes a baby boomer he says hes almost finished on earth
cause he has a few health issues
then it dawned on me wow baby boomers soon will be gone
then its generation X which is my generation
we were also discussing how the millinials and younger ones
world rotates around computers and digital
how they dont use services the baby boomers use
because of all the apps and easy access
so the feed new technology businesses the young ones
and not so much old school

what's your opinion on this ?
Sorry to hear about your friend.

Walton may have destroyed small town downtowns, but Amazon will destroy everything in every city large or small.

While I agree, my point was Walmart helped pave the way for all of this madness. Walmart built strategically around small towns - waited out the downtowns to die then built super centre’s / closed their smaller stores - now the customer has to drive further to them as they are basically the only game around. Walmart made so much money they left the smaller stores vacant in many instances.
Now - Amazon has taken it one step further and upped the game - just click and you shall receive today / tomorrow to your door.

Agree with much of what your saying. A great part of Canada / US success is being a melting pot of Immigration - it’s fantastic that People can come here in some instances with nothing but skills / drive and create something that they may not have been able to do where they came from. NA is really still a land of opportunity.

My point was really more about creating this dependency on foreign manufacturing - if nothing good comes from Covid - I hope People come to realize we need manufacturing here in the Americas. Do People really need a $5.00 t shirt from Walmart that’s a throwaway or perhaps a $15.00 one that lasts five times longer - just an example.

Good reason to split the large boomer generation in half, from 1945 to 1955 and 1955 to 1965.
I have little in common with my older siblings.

Interesting article...wow.
Guess I just found out I am Generation Jones. Always knew I wasn't a fucking Boomer.
Maybe technically I am still Generation X but that's usually associated with the slackers who came of age in the early 90's.
There's definitely a Lost Generation between Boomers and X'ers.
