I don't understand how people can be so thoughtless to not have working smoke detectors, especially when there are children in the house. It's just so tragic.

Very true what fire media rep said. All synthetics in a lot of houses and they erupt in flames lickety split.

We for atheistic reasons have over the years gotten rid of synthetic carpets and moved to hardwood and laminate floors. Yes, they still will burn, but take quite a bit of heat before the get going.

In the same breath I did put 2" of rigid foam under the second storey vinyl siding, but at least int was foil faced on each side.

Buy all gas at CTC, and build up CTC money.

Use it to replace the 9V in the three smoke alarms and battery backup to the co alarm. Very good price if buy I a 4 pack of 9V's there.

Look at expiry date on the smoke alarm when you swap the battery, and buy new ones and put them up when the old ones near their expiry date.

Have small dry chem fire extinguisher in the pantry across fro the stove, in case of kitchen fire.
I turn it upside down and give the cylinder some good raps with rubber mallet to keep the dry powder from clumping up the same time I swap detector batteries.

Clean dryer lint trap every load I do. My teenagers not so rigorous at this.
Swap to dst in spring, and I also go out to dig lint from flapper than gets past the in dryer screen.

Years ago a member of my family was yelling for me to come downstairs. I came downstairs and saw her dress on fire as well as the couch. Fortunately, I had a small fire extinguisher (First Alert brand) nearby and put out both fires.

This is tragic. Felt so sorry for the grandfather in the video. He's just lost his daughter and three grandkids.
