I might cash in some Blockbuster and Enron stocks so I can get me some rubles for when it goes back up, maybe some Sears Canada stock while i'm at it, LOL
So you think the war and the sanctions will go on forever and never stop. LOL.
There is always a chance that it could last long enough for Russia to go tits up, but it isn't exactly the same situation as the ones you mentioned.

They keep saying China has an alternate to SWIFT which Russia has joined and that they are new bff's in trade and commerce. Don't really know that much about Russia's GNP other than allegedly it is smaller than Italy's. A few years ago someone pointed out that if you go a hundred miles outside of Moscow it is like the Russia of Tolstoy. 19th century poverty.

I once took the Trans Siberian railroad. There is a lot of land in Russia. The villages in the country side looks OK though, with little orchards and vegetable gardens.

Sounds like a nice trip. With a country large enough to have 11 time zones , makes you wonder why they need to invade other peoples' countries.

Russia's GDP = Canada's GDP. Russia has 3.5 x the population of Canada.

That means that Canada has 3.5 x the Russian standard of living.

The idea of trying to make some money off of Russia through all of this seems a bit much.
Do you not think Banks and investors all over the world are not buying Rubles to hold? It has to go back up eventually.

Hey, great idea! I still have some WT Grant stock in a drawer somewhere. Think about this, Confederate money is now actually worth money again. Sell some gold and buy a few rubles....

Russia will have to debase their currency.
"This infographic shows how currency debasement contributed to the fall of Rome"
How Currency Debasement Contributed to Fall of Rome (businessinsider.com)

100% agree on Rome’s currency debasement. They used precious metals as money.

However… We are not on the Gold standard anymore. The final nail was in 1971, which I am sure you know. It’s just a printing press now. The whole world is on fiat.

This is where I get fuzzy on the math. A country used to be able to say that for every oz of gold we are holding, we have this many $ printed. (Or € or £ or ¥ etc). Straight forward math. It gave you a base value. But we have taken gold out of that equation. I know it’s a counties GDP, Exports, tax revenue…. Just not sure the magic formula.

I doubt that. I believe that Russia is about to deliberately default on all its international debts and that it will economically isolate itself like North Korea. Those rubles will be worthless.

Want to bet Russia has more real gold in its reserve than the U.S.?

I think it took Germany 4 to 5 years to repatriate its gold bars stored
in New York.

Russia just said they are suspending all food exports until the fall.
With Russia and Ukraine not exporting, there will be big shortages this year.

Russia has banned exports of wheat, meslin, rye, barley and corn to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) until 31 August, the Russian economy ministry said.

We have 2 goals. End Russian aggression… then, bring Russia back into the global fold. And for 2 reasons. They have Nukes. And they have a substantial population and significant resources.

The goal will not be to ostracize them. It will be quicker than you can imagine once the bombings stop.
