Nothing pisses off businesses and citizens like having their lives and livelihoods disrupted by idiots. If they came to your neighbourhood and workplace you'd be the 1st one to be up in arms.
didn't the lockdowns pissed off the businesses and citizens? where were you when that happened?

Not so easy to figure. Why are coffee shops closed? There’s plenty of foot traffic there. My bet is they were scared into believing there would be vandalism and violence (which hasn’t happened), and that some of them would just refuse to serve stinky high school educated truckers who don’t know that you shouldn’t get all sweaty and dirty when you work.

Don’t you find it ironic that Ottawa blocked off Sparks street to create a pedestrian shopping area to help local businesses, and the trucker protest just expands on that area, yet businesses can’t be open?
Don't you understand that these businesses don't necessarily want to deal with anti-mask idiots? I mean, right now they are required to have customers be masked when they enter. I suspect these are the types that will barge in and cause a scene when they're told to put a mask on. I'm sure they're record it and yell about FREEDOM!!!! while harassing a store manager or a clerk. Sounds like the ideal customer....

Don’t you understand that businesses are in business to make money? Businesses were only complying with mask mandates because: 1) they had to under OHSA Covid protocols, or 2) they had to under Covid health authority mandates, or 3) because they were giving public health authorities the benefit of the doubt in the early going. However, if Ottawa businesses are going to pursue masking/vaccination policies as part of their own personal crusade - good luck to them. Get woke, go broke! Seems to me that Canadians shouldn’t worry too much about such incompetent business people as you are presupposing them to be.

Maybe I'm wrong. But why would a protest against vaccines and masking follow the rules when they want to buy a hamburger or coffee? You think they're suddenly going to mask up to enter the mall? You're telling me they wouldn't be all juiced up protesting these rules and would just calmly accept it?

Now, what are the odds they try to enter a store, are told they need to mask up, and then they just quietly leave and try another place? I think they'd be defiant at best and belligerent at worst.

Considering that only about a third support this group, and not on all parts, I don't think companies would suffer. I mean, there could be the counter backlash, where people who are following the rules won't want to support a business that allows potentially unsafe behaviour.

I wouldn’t bet the farm on it. Ultimately, Canadians value freedom and resent government intrusions into our personal lives. A business that caters exclusively to the hyper paranoid isn’t likely to be very successful.

Yet we still have 20% of our health care workers unvaxxed. It just all doesn't make sense.
May I ask where you got that percentage? That seems way high.
Last I had heard some time ago was Manitoba was last at over 80% and most provinces in the 90's. This was prior to unvaccinated health care workers being dismissed.
Keep in mind too that "healthcare workers" includes maintenance staff, administrative and other non-frontline workers. Doctors are at 96% and they would obviously be the healthcare worker whose opinion of vaccine efficacy would be the most important.

LOL

First, how is that hyper paranoid? We know covid is an airborne virus. It spreads very easily in an enclosed space. So, a crowded store would be a worrisome place to be. Now, throw in a bunch of unmasked people who would likely be screaming about their rights....and it could quickly turn into a super spreader event...

I think many shoppers want to be safe. I mean, 2/3s say so. So...would it suck for a biz to lose some customers? Yes, but wouldn't you rather keep 2/3s than lose that?

The Ottawa business closures are not so easy to calculate. What caused them to close? Blocked streets meant not enough customer traffic? Fear of vandalism that didn’t happen? Refusal to serve protesters? Seems like the coffee shops and eateries were foolish to close, provided they could be staffed, as the protesters would have spent a fortune there.

Good luck to the US if they think they can find more reliable trading partners than Canada. That one is like complaining about your wife when you know she’s 10 times better than your alternatives!
There were a couple of business interviewed in the early days of the protest that intended to stay open but closed because their staff and customers were being harrassed for mask wearing and protesters would enter refusing to wear masks.

The common cold and the common flu, to name just 2 existing communicable diseases, are also highly transmissible and can be transmitted through the air. We knew this, and lived with the minuscule level (but not non-existent level) of risk of serious illness or fatality. No one ever talked about venues such as shopping malls or schools as “super spreader” venues for the transmission of colds (although clearly they were and are). Our new hyper sensitivity to a new communicable disease which is not much more deadly (not initially, and certainly not at this point) than existing common diseases is nothing other than paranoia.

Assuming the reporting to be correct, it’s too limited a sample. I’m sure there are some rude protesters. I’m also sure that people in retail deal with some form of rudeness every day. Stores don’t close over that.

I believe it was the Ottawa Citizen but I could be mistaken as it was when this started.
You’re right that stores experience rudeness each day and don’t close. So how bad must it have been to compel them to do so then?

You really don't know anything about liability, safety, supply chains, ETC.

Yep, I know quite a bit about those subjects. What would you like to learn about?

Store will refuse them if that's the store protocol....IMO they are protesting to stop the mandates on truckers...what makes you think they're belligerent? because they are protesting? you must be livid about what happened in Kenosha where they burn down almost the entire city....

I see you're the type who doesn't believe COVID is a serious health issues. You are entitled to your opinion. Facts, on the other hand paint a different picture. The flu or common cold do kill people (as do its vaccines). But, covid kills people at a higher rate. Now, of course you can argue that it hit those with underlying health issues...but so does the flu. Now, I'm a triple vaxxed person in fairly good health. I think if I caught it now, I would likely fight it off and live. What worries me is the damage this disease can do. Again, there doesn't seem to be a guarantee that it'll happen in every case, but people have had major organs damaged, suffered blood clots and strokes, and then there is the threat of "long haul covid," which hits a certain number of people. They might have caught the disease a year ago and are still feeling crappy.

I don't want to face that risk. While we've learned a lot in the past year, there is still a lot that we do not know. We are still learning about the longterm issues that this disease can cause. I don't want to die, I don't want to suffer long term effects. I also don't want others to suffer that fate.

But, saying someone is concerned about dying from this is not being paranoid.

Yes you are correct I was reading an article about Manitoba. Across Canada it's about 10%. The same percentage as the truckers yet they get targeted.
