I think these calls from "Amazon" is just another scam. Lots going around these days.

At least the "CRA" calls seem to have stopped. The credit card scam has also stopped (at least for now).

Actually, I hung up on the "Amazon" caller after he said a couple of sentences because I sense it was bogus. So, I didn't hear the rest of the "script".

BTW: I also heard there is a "grandparent" scam. This is where someone pretends to be their grandchild and please send money.

I have actually had two calls from CRA, I almost said "Yeah, sure it is." Then they started referring to the actual matter at hand and I realized it was legit.

I have had the Amazon calls too. I have time to waste their time, so I press 1 then either string them along for a while or say nothing. Less time to scam others.

Amazing! You got a call from the real CRA. When I use to get them it was always a male's voice with an ----- accent but an Anglo name (e.g. "Derek Williams").

You have more patience than me. I got two calls from them so far and I knew within seconds that they were bogus and hung up.

Yah, I enjoy stringing along the cancelling the SIN number calls .

'Like does this mean I don't have to pay taxes any more if you cancel my SIN number?'

And then the bogus Computer Support calls.
I start with 'Which computer?" 'What operating system?'.
'Oh, that one has no external connections. So just how did you diagnose it?'

The scam might be that the phone number to which you're connecting is 'pay per minute', so they're more than happy to have you waste as much of their time and your money as you want.

If any of you actually speak to a phone scammer, make absolutely sure that you have a dial tone before making your next outgoing call. Sometimes they remain connected after you hang up, to try to decode the next number you dial from the tone sounds. They hope it is a bank or credit card company, so they can add that information to their database of information about you.

Good advice. That's why I hang up as soon as I determine it is a bogus call. Same with the folks who "happen to be in my area" and want to sell me a new door/window/water heater.

Also, I have a pay per minute cellphone and I can't waste minutes that are costing me money.

I used to like fucking with them too. Not so much in the past few years as technology is so much better and I am much more wary, but 5-10 years ago I would occasionally not hang up when they started their spiel. I would let them go through the whole thing, sometimes took 30 secs to 1 minute or more. When they finaly came to the part where they asked if I would be interested I would say "Sorry my wife asked me something and I missed what you said, do mind repeating it. Sometimes they started again and I then would just hang up but sometimes they would unleash a torrent of swearing and yelling.

Hopefully with my face in a pussy
Air duct cleaning services are the most annoying as far as frequency, and it sounds like the same guy every time. Once I led him on with stories of having a 5,000 sq/ft home, blah blah blah, fully finished basement, heated covered pool in the yard, everything but my own private airstrip. Had him salivating thinking of big bucks. Then I told him it was all electric heating.

The best CRA call was one I received at close to 5 on a Friday a couple of weeks before X-Mas.

I was tempted to call them back and ask if they honestly expected me to believe that even the most dedicated government employee was going to be making a call like that so close to quitting time on a Friday and starting legal proceedings a couple of weeks before most government agencies would have been shutting down for the holidays.

That’s nothing like when they called me once. I did something similar to what you did and finally gave them my address as 20 College Street, Toronto. After a second of pause, he called me an asshole and hung up.

I get them, air duct cleanings, visa calls for someone that took money out of my account, customs for a package at the border, Revenue Canada. But they're all with my new cell number, I keep adding them to the block list.
