Yes, I also hang up as soon as I realize it is bogus. I think after a while the scammers move on to other targets. But, it could take a while. One time they called twice in the same day.

I often just act like an idiot, (not difficult for me) and answer them back with confused questions and answers. Or sometimes I'll get more creative. Got a call from the duct cleaning guys, and told them I had a 10,000 sq. ft. house in town, and a 5,000 sq. ft. cottage in Muskoka, and had them salivating. Then I told them that it was all electric heating. The 'click' at their end was rather abrupt.
Works with cell phones, not land lines, where I get the majority of these calls.
Thanks for the clarification. I have both a cell and a landline. I heard that a landline phone is very difficult if not impossible to hack.
There's really nothing to hack, they just autodial phone numbers. I guess there must be something out there that lists legitimate area codes and exchanges, online phone books perhaps. That may make sense as I never get scam phone calls on my cell phone, and of course there is no phone book for cell numbers.
