Frankfooter's posts from 2015 show the IPCC's predictions of global warming were spectacularly wrong

Exactly as the IPCC projected.
Hmm. So now, we're supposed to believe that 0.15ºC x 10 equals either 4 or 6.

"Exactly as the IPCC projected."

Right on the edge of the largest ocean in the world. Yeah, Obama is REALLY worried about the rising sea levels. ROTFLMAO!!
Such cynicism. Next, I suppose you'll be telling us Stacey Abrams isn't sincere about her commitment to wearing masks.

The stark reality of the IPCC's failures is really getting to Franky.

Check the above quotes. He tells me to "pick 1999" and then accuses me of "cherry picking" after I "pick 1999."

😃
Ah, darn it!
And you were so close!

I was sure you were going to be able to understand what cherry picking is.
But now you seemed confused just by me giving you two examples.

Do we need to over the cherry picking lesson again?
Here, try this, its only 2 minutes long and looks like a cartoon.

OMG!

3 pages later and you still can't understand cherry picking data.
Now I have to explain that there are ranges of projections based on different scenario of CO2 outputs and policies?

You should start paying me as your tutor.
Do you really not understand that there are different scenarios plotted?

I know exactly what it is. It's creating inflated numbers by picking La Nina years like 1999 or 2000 as the starting point for calculating temperature increases.

See exhibit A:

Pick 1999 and its 0.3ºC a decade
Pick 2000 and its the same.
I also know that as we set new global records for man-made CO2 emissions, the IPCC's predicted temperature increase of 6ºC continues to be spectacularly wrong.

Some tutoring for the guy who keeps posting lies that say I "admitted" the IPCC's predictions were accurate: "ranges of projections" aren't "predictions." 😀

Meanwhile, I sure hope Franky's "co-editors" at the Guardian don't find out he's now telling everyone this story from 2001 was total bullshit.

From the second paragraph:

"The UN group reported yesterday in Shanghai that, in the worst case, the average temperature could rise by 5.8C this century, 2C higher than their original predictions" (bolded and underlined emphasis added by me).

I would be curious to know what other TERB members think about this.

I've been offered tutoring services from someone whose qualifications are:

- Functionally illiterate.
- Functionally innumerate.
- A total ignoramus about basic science (eg., doesn't understand the difference between naturally occurring warming and a hypothesis about man-made warming).
- A total ignoramus about history (eg., he once insisted the "pre-industrial age" refers to the year 1990).

I'm thinking I should reject this offer. 😀

Hey, question moviefan.
How different is RCP 8.5's projection different from Exxon's 1982 internal projection?

Do you know?

I'm not familiar with the Exxon projection. But I do know the RCP8.5 model that the IPCC allowed to be promoted in the press as a "business as usual" scenario was as spectacularly wrong as the IPCC's temperature predictions.

I must admit, I'm surprised to see you introducing a new example of how the IPCC is full of crap.

Ah, but moviefan!

Remember how excited you were when you figured out how much more 4 was than 1!
And even now, you were so close to understanding what cherry picking is.

The sky's the limit!
We could even get into exponential numbers and ideas like the greenhouse effect.

Actually, the high-end number in question was "5". 😀 And, no, I don't remember being "excited."

But I certainly do remember it took you more than a week to concede that I was right after you initially accused me of being "incredibly incompetent" in math when I said the number 5 is a 400% increase over 1.

Meanwhile, we're still waiting for you to explain how you calculated that 0.2ºC x 10 = 4. 😲

It doesn't look like Obama will learn anything from Nancy Pelosi.

Well, yes, that was quite the accomplishment figuring out that 5 is more than 1. Sorry if I didn't remember the details of your conquest as clearly as you did.
Of course you did massively screw up the main question, how much of a ratio that increase was to the global temperature.
But you did figure out how much more 5 is than 1, so I'll give you credit on upping your math skills massively in getting that one correct.

Its just disappointing that you still couldn't identify where the cherry picking was in the example question for test #2.

We still have so much work to do on your understanding of ratios, exponential charts, ranges of projections and of course the greenhouse effect.
But I do have to say that I'm quite proud that you got your first question right and that you've admitted that the planet has warmed about 1ºC so far, as the IPCC projected.
Its a start.

Well, yes, that was quite the accomplishment figuring out that 5 is more than 1.
To be more precise, I calculated the percentage increase - a calculation you originally called "frigging comedy gold" and "incredibly incompetent."

It took you more than a week to concede that I was right, even after I provided you with a link to help you learn to calculate percentage increases. 😀
