uphill both ways!I've lived in Calgary, London and Montreal (grew up in rural Quebec). This is nothing. Unbelievable, they're closing the schools tomorrow. When I was a kid I would walk 2 miles in 10 feet of snow to go to school.

This is why people get dogs.My cat woke me up at 5 AM, all exited to show me the snow.
TMI, way to much...I could see the snow piled up outside the window from my bed. So upset I couldn't make it out of my bedroom to the bathroom to pee. Guess I'll buy a new mattress later. The pee is still warm under the covers though, so not getting up anytime soon.![]()
20 inches. Shoveling out in stages. It's a very good thing schools and a lot of businesses were closed for MLK BD observance...So what were the totals---in inches or feet, please, for a Yank--that you got yesterday? The low pressure system--think it was a stacked low, with equal pressure aloft and at the surface--took a weird track, looping back into central PA instead of the usual winter coastal run from NC to NJ to the 40-70 benchmark (https://nyskiblog.com/directory/weather-data/northeast-us/40-70-benchmark-map/) and then out and up to the Maritimes. Looking like we may get a version of this on Saturday in NYC region, albeit with a progressive storm as there's no so-called blocking to keep the storm bottled up and spinning like a dervish on LSD
Same thing down here, all the ski resorts in the "snow belt" are reporting little if any new snow...No and this ain't a Lake Effect either. We got hit with a Perfect Storm, moisture coming in from Kansas mixing with Arctic air from James Bay. The funny part is that Barrie is getting significantly less snowfall than us. Honestly this is better than the freezing rain storm we got in Dec 2013. You could hear the tree branches and electrical lines snap, longest blackout since 2003.
On days like today, I'll focus on sunnier climes.
When I lived in Quebec where Winter is 15 months a year, I drove a 2 (wish it was a 4) wheel drive car with 100lbs bags of sand in the trunk. Studded tires (maybe illegal now) and kept a couple of tire chains in the trunk just in case. The problem was always the other drivers because if one car gets stuck we lose the whole lane.Yawn. Drove to the office at 7 am, stayed off the highway and used unplowed side streets- no problem whatsoever, very little traffic. Came back early, more traffic and too many drivers who obviously had no idea how to drive in the snow. My pick up with the winter ballast on the bed behaved like a champ- as always. The only downside- a 15 min drive took almost half an hour mainly because of other cars. Very enjoyable, a winter wonderland.
yes! One doesn’t know what real anger is until they shovel snow and see a snow plow come and either undo all your work or block your driveway with a huge pile of snow.Shoveled 3x yesterday, the first 2 times it was about 4-6" each time, the last time, it was because the plow came through & blocked in my driveway.Thankfully, one of my neighbours came over & used his snowblower to clear some of it for me. I'm feeling it this morning, though.
401 was surprisingly good for the most part, especially east of Cobourg. Only 25 minutes later than normal getting back.I don't work Mondays, but I go in at 1 AM tonight. My usual 10-hour Tuesday will probably be 12 or 13.
401 scarborough was a standstill for 3 hours...then idiots started using the curb...which made it worst...401 was surprisingly good for the most part, especially east of Cobourg. Only 25 minutes later than normal getting back.
I left at 2 this morning, didn't have to deal with much. It was after I left Kingston at 7 that I had to dodge wrecks.401 scarborough was a standstill for 3 hours...then idiots started using the curb...which made it worst...
AND I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!When I was a kid I would walk 2 miles in 10 feet of snow to go to school.
I'm actually still in bed. Power went out, heat went off, and I've woken up frozen within my pee-soaked sheets! No idea when the power could come on, thaw me out, and free me from 'pee-prison', but the bigger problem is I now need to take a wicked dump. Pls send help!TMI, way to much...
