It was a "Leather" skinny tie!
I knew people in Montreal at the time who were very into the Punk and New Wave scene from the very beginning. I went to a party around 1980 at the rehearsal space for Men Without Hats, before they signed a record contract; they supplied live music. Around 1978/79, I was at a party at the apartment of a guy named Tycho Manson, (his real name!), who used to order British import singles by airmail, so he'd be the DJ playing 45 RPMs that had been released in the UK within the previous week or so.
I never wore a skinny tie.
