And how to stop them?

I was writing my to do list on PC Notepad, and one item was b-day gift.

Then I got a YouTube ad on phone about bday gift ideas.

How do I stop this? I believe this was based purely on keystroking pickup on PC. Does that mean Ad companies know your bank passwords too?

You did not think Youtube was going to go on forever without paid ads popping up once all the eyeballs were fully trained to watch it did you?

Who owns it -the world leader of ad placement folks

I don't mind being spied on, but I do mind if a 3rd party has my banking information. Apart from that I don't care about rest.

I have an Adblock Plus installed on my laptop (Chrome). I don't watch YouTube on cellphone anymore. For the Adblock to work for YouTube, you must not be in a private browsing.

I actually have YouTube premium and I think that it's worth it.

Ironically, I realized the other day that in all my years of surfing the YT, I have NEVER clicked an ad, or not skipped when I could, and have, in fact, actually avoided brands that advertise on there, even ones I previously supported. And I don't think I am alone in that.

My question was on how to find out what companies are spying on you via keystroke input, because that's how they pickedup my interests, meaning they got passwords to banks too.

They aren't tracking keystroke in itself. But most do track your search entries, Facebook being one of the biggest purchases of search history from other websites. Mobile apps, however, do have access to your microphone but aint noone sitting around listening to conversations, they do have speech recognition though, that may flag keywords.

My question was on how to find out what companies are spying on you via keystroke input, because that's how they pickedup my interests, meaning they got passwords to banks too.

They definitely are spying on you all the time. Google keeps a record of every site you've ever visited, every search you've ever done. Pretty freaky when you think about it.

There seems to be 2 kinds of targeted ads. The first kind I get after I've searched for something in particular. Say for example car parts for my toy cars. I close the site down and later that day I'm on line reading a newspaper and lo and behold, an ad for the exact parts supplier that I was on line earlier that day pops up. Hmmm. Delete my internet history and no more ads from that supplier.

But the second kind of ad is more insidious. Those keep popping up no matter what and are not a co-incidence. They know things about you and it's not on some cookie contained in your browsing history. For example, I get ads for dental implants. Yes, I've had some dental implant work over the years. It's not a coincidence. I also keep getting ads aimed at my age group. It's severely fucked up.

The only thing I can think of is using a VPN all the time, something I should be more in tune with perhaps.

As far as bank passwords go, I would not be surprised. I bank with several of the banks and I've noticed that CIBC is now sending me text messages with a random code to enter some of the time. RBC just relies on questions, almost like another password. But who knows if google is keeping track of that too. I would not be surprised.

It's all a bit much frankly.
