Firemen at most fire stations. Many residential stations do not experience one significant fire a year. Almost every fireman that I know has a side gig [ usually close to full time] since they have so much time off.
3 points.
1) Toronto firepeople work 3 full 24 hour days a week and then get the following week off. Yes, they sleep at the station.
2) It's true they are on standby but when you need them you need them. Yes, they have stopped rescuing cats from high poles.
3) I think you are pensioned off after 25 years because they are too old.

The flip side of that coin is they do not have to pander to popular opinion, or the PM of the day. They can theoretically make the decisions they feel are right, without fear of reprisal.
Yes, that is the theory but they are appointed by the ruling party.

Tenured professors are also free to express their views and often do.

My impression of stock brokers in 2021-2022 is that they are there to help old ladies that do not know how to use a computer make trades. As far as advice go they will give you the slow but sure advice that will beat the bank interest rates. Totally useless for the vast majority of investors.
A former broker tried to sell me on the "wrap" account. They take 2% off the top and I get "free" advice and trades the rest of the year.

If the workers are so smart then why dont they start their own company and cut the CEO out and make all the profit for their own hard work.?

The truth is that they're too dumb to do so. They get paid so little because they're told how to do a simple task and they repeat it over and over again without any thought.

The CEO on the other hand makes so much because he is responsible for overseeing the entire operation, making decisions on a daily basis that can make or break the entire company.

The simple minded people working in the warehouse will never understand this
Because they can't afford to take time off and there underpaid that's why. Kind of like being the brains but being locked in a prison lol

My boss's kid?

Is it too sensible to say there are wastes of space in all jobs?

For CEOs, I see a huge difference between the genius in a start-up that became CEO and the appointees to long-standing companies. And for people like Hey, huge amount of luck is involved in which start-ups get funding or succeed.

Yes, there is a difference. How about appointees to oligopolies?

t’s weird how much CEOs are idolized and paid in Canadian society for how little value they actually add to a company compared to the people doing all the technical work.
CEO's must be expert allocators of capital. For a small business or a multibillion dollar company, doesn't matter.

To add, it's mostly stars make the obscene amount of money.

The average of NFL salaries is $860,000.
You can't do what an elite athlete does. Care to play d against Lebron or Connor McDavid? You'd be a pylon.

Ever try to hit a 98 mph fast ball? How about a 96 mph cutter a la Mariano Rivera? If you throw strikes in the mid 90's, I can be your agent.

Can you do this?

The situation over the last forty years or so is that top executives have gotten insanely rich and government workers have done very well.
But Joe Lunch Bucket has gotten screwed.

Couple of points for you to consider. Companies don’t organize themselves. Organizing a company and keeping it viable and afloat takes tremendous work and skill. I would not take a CEO’s position for any amount of money. Every single problem and challenge within that company now becomes your problem; you either solve it or the company fails and every single employee is out of a job. Like ‘‘em or hate ‘em, CEOs are a key part of the engine that feeds every single one of us. They’ve done more to raise the world out of poverty than all the politicians and activists ever have and ever will.

Overpaid individuals? Let’s start with pro athletes, followed by musicians, then all the activists living off of government grants.

You dont have a clue do you lol

I've started my company from scratch and can tell you that vast majority of people are useless. They do the least amount possible and cant even show up on time most of the time. The average employee lacks the motivation and discipline to run any sort of business.

Some that I thought were in the top 10% I offered to guide them on how to make 100,000 $ - 200,000 $ a year. Wouldnt charge them a penny, offered them step by step guidance on what needed to be done in order to succeed.

Do you want to guess how many took me up on the offer in 2 decades ?
3, and not one of them followed through. And 2 of them I gave money to so they could get started lol
Instead they continue to make barely livable wage and continue to make excuses about why they cant get ahead and how I'm "lucky"

Working a shit job is a choice, and so is success.

Has anyone mentioned teachers?
Median salary of a university educated person in ontario is 85k that includes all university grads. So why shouldnt a person with 5 to 6 years university with over a decade of experience earn more than the median of all university grads? Especiallt given the importance of the job.

Education is extremely important for society in terms of employment, income, life expectancy/health, crime prevention which results in hugher tax revenue and decreased strain on health care, social safety net, law enforcement.

Not to mention it is challenging. If you were ever tired after supervisinf a birthday party imagine doing the same thing except they were kids and parents that dont respect you and instead of food, toys and games you are trying to get them to do things they dont want to do.

And Canada is often ranked hughly in best educated countries in the world.

People will point out thete are bad or lazy teachers. Sure of course they exist. Same goes for any other occupation be it doctor, lawyer, cop, athlete, ceo, real estate agent whatever.

The one nice thing about the pandemic has been to demonstrate teachers and nurses are an essential part of our day to day lives and won’t be the popular punching bag for politicians who trot out the “these people are overplayed and the unions need to be stopped!” rhetoric . I saw Ford try to stir it up after the second wave of COVID as it’s a tried and tested way of increasing political popularity but not this time, dummy.

I don't want to beat up teachers but here are 3 points.
1) Great hours
2) Get the Summer off
3) Retire at 55-60 with a fully indexed pension

P.S. I use to date several teachers 3 lifetimes ago. They made more per diem than me with a post-grad degree.

If you made Jess than a teacher with a post grad, then you picked the wrong post grad.

All the teachers I know are overworked and underpaid with no summers off. They all work to get thru summer. It’s a myth they get summers off.
