WHO says vaccine booster programs will prolong Covid crisis: ‘No country can boost its way out of the pandemic’
Did you read the article or did you just get off on the headline? To quote Andre the Giant, I do not think it means what you think it means.

Nothing new here. Chances of infection are much higher and the infection lasts longer without any vaccination. That means more opportunities for mutations to happen in the virus. That's why they think it's more important for everyone to get two doses than a subset of people getting boosted while others have no protection.

But the issue goes much deeper as vaccine "hesitancy" (hate that term for conspiracy kooks) is a significant issue in many parts of the world, often due to a history of medical experimentation, not facebook trolls.

Wow did the WHO actually tell the truth for once this pandemic?
You mean that vaccines are effective and that is why vaccine inequality can be a problem? Better for more people to get 2 shots than some get 3 and some get 0.

Because that is what the article actually is saying.

Bah, reading articles you share, that's some nazbol commie nazi shit that is.

Got my booster and felt fine.

My arm was a little sore, and I felt achey the morning after, but I was good to go by noon. I worked out in the PM instead of the AM, that was the extent of the impact.

That was my third Pfizer.

I booked through a family physician (not mine) office North of the GTA. I was back to my vehicle with a booster 4 minutes after putting it in park.

The WHO has been shouting this truth from the rooftops since the start of booster development.

Honestly, it surprises me a little that the usual suspects would be so keen on places like Canada funding vaccine roll-outs in developing nations.

But, ‘tis the season, I guess.

Well, above all, WHO's original position was- third world before the boosters. They are just restating their position. Thedros' quote is the only thing that's new and he'll probably issue a "clarification " in a day or two.

It did take me 45 minutes from showing up to my shots. I guess the concept of appointment isn't a thing.
Seems it's like that most days at least later in the day.
It isn't as if the health district hasn't been doing this for a year and passed out over 300K shots including times when they were even more busy. He said sarcasticlly. They should know by now how to time things and how many appointments they can run through in terms of capacity. It's nucking futs.

Hahahaha, can You explain by disputing what Basketcase stated was "wrong" in Your opinion?? Warming up my popcorn!!
He is right that poorer nations not getting vaccinated can lead to more mutated strains (like there was in S. Africa).
Where I disagree with him on (and the WHO) is that it doesnt have to be an either/or thing. Now with Novavax coming out with their protein vaccine I believe there will be a lot less "vaccine hesitancy".

So no, we can give industrialized countries booster shots, but at the same time get poorer nations vaccinated as well.
If you forego North-America and Europe by not giving them boosters, then who's to say new variants might not pop up here as well??

This was not about your Opinion but the interpretation of WHO's message to the more affluent nations. That is what Basketcase was seemingly interpreting and I fully agree with him on that point.
Well also the issue is that the vaccines are being dumped on to various developing nations just prior to their expiry dates as has occurred in countries like Nigeria. All they can do is to then dump them in waste sites as there is no way they have the infrastructure to administer these vaccine in a weeks time from receiving these doses. Well the problem here is not whether we have the means to administer these vaccines, but solely the anti-vaxxers and vaccine hesitants who just do not want to take the jabs due to the usual conspiracy theories floating around on the internet with respect to mRNA vaccines and I do not expect that to be much different when the Protein based vaccines arrive. They are the sole reason why the mutations will continue to evolve!!

Also not true. If Omicron turns out to be much less lethal (which so far its pointing towards) it could get us out of the pandemic faster because it spreads so quickly and give us natural immunity. So if Omicron came from a non-vaccinated person we all have him or her to thank

Your statement is just not true. Omicron is pointing to being 50-70% less lethal, however, the evidence is that you could contract it multiple times, as the immunity is not long lasting. Moreover, those with either compromised systems or the aged could still succumb to it. Moreover, the most recent studies suggest that the booster shots have a very short span of around just 10 weeks. Hence, the science has to keep up with the mutations. In addition this Omicron mutant will spread at a much faster rate and to a sizeable section of the population like no other strain. That could result in several more deaths of the very vulnerable ones. Not a concern to You??

Covid is survivable by 99.5% of the population (roughly). The preliminary findings are that Omicron gives you even higher odds. If confirmed, we're in the common cold territory. What difference does it make if you contract it more than once? The elimination of covid failed, now you want to be 100% immune?

You can try reading it. Might help.

“Blanket booster programs are likely to prolong the pandemic, rather than ending it, by diverting supply to countries that already have high levels of vaccination coverage, giving the virus more opportunity to spread and mutate,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a news briefing.

In Canada the death rate is roughly 1.55% of those who contracted the virus. Now if 100% of the population of Canada's 38.25 million citizens contracted the virus, then statistically we can have around 590,000 deaths. We are just at over 30,000 deaths at the moment. That is why we cannot let our guard down, and the anti-vaxxers are prolonging this Pandemic. Presently The Delta strain is the most deadly one!!
