You get $10,000 in pretend money to spend on up to 10 stocks. Trade anytime you want at 0 cost in the game. Include a screenshot of the price. Let's see if blind folded monkeys can really beat the market.

Monday start.... Who's in?

If you know nothing about stocks, no worries. This may learn you.

Here is a tool you can use. Type the company name you interested in, in the search bar...

Sounds interesting - so you are asking to pick 10 stocks that is worth $10,00 in USD?

Is there a particular stocks that are off limits and when is the deadline?

What is the duration of this competition? I suggest posting the price and time from Yahoo Finance when a buy or sell is made. This can also be verified in the yahoo historical data.

If it is allowed I will stay liquid cash for now.

Canadian or US stocks?
If you do a mix of CAN & US stocks does does the exchange rate factor in? If so what's the exchange rate?

Up to ten. You can put all your Monopoly money in Tesla if you want.

No restrictions. I mean if someone posts that they chose and EFT, or bitcoin, or giant case of silver…. No skin off my ass. More fun with stocks IMO.

No deadlines on time. Join anytime you want. You do you. I was hoping anyone playing can hang around at least a quarter (3 months).

Weekly or bi-weekly updates? If there is interest that goes longer, maybe we start doing quarterly updates. I honestly think it will be the math that causes people to drop off.

It’s a game. Supposed to be fun, and maybe educational. It may even inspire rubes like me to start picking stocks instead of simply market funds.

I am not policing this. If someone has to cheat at the pretend money game on the pooner board, then quite frankly, they are a legend! 🤷‍♂️

Edit:
* Update your progress weekly. We all started with $10k.
* All Trades between 8am and 7pm Mon to Fri as suggested.

Do your math first, trust me.
Get a price of paper, and write down your 1 to 10 picks ahead of time with the current price. Decide how much money you want on each one.

Apple is at $156.81 per share right now. Buying $1200 worth is:
1200 \ 156.81 = 7.653 shares. Round to 3 decimal points on your total shares.

If Apple then goes to $163.90…. And you have 7.653 shares…. 163.90 x 7.653 = $$1254.33. You made $54!

Example: If you were going to buy these 5 companies… Apple, Tesla, Oracle, Pfizer, & Red Light Holland (penny stock)

Sunday 11:30 AM

$1200 in AAPL (NYSE) @ $156.81 is 7.653 shares

$800 in TSLA (NADQ) @ $1081.92 is 0.740 shares

$3000 in ORCL (NYSE) @ $92.33 is 32.492 Shares

$1000 in TRIP.CN (CAN SEC) @ $0.155 is 6451.61 shares

$4000 in PFE (NYSE) @ $54.00 is 74.074 Shares

Total Value: $10,000

below is the link to the tool I use to find the stock names and prices.

I had not thought of that.

I was going to just keep it simple. Any market. No exchange.
If someone has a suggestion…. I am open to ideas.

my thoughts are if a stock goes up 9%…. It’s 9%. Calculating the exchange rates is just extra work. I was hoping to keep it simple for everyone, especially newbies.

My suggestion is just keep it for the week and see the maximum returns anyone can make in an week with $10,000 So starts Monday 8am and finishes Friday 7pm and no call options just straight stock trading.

Have posters keep replying to their posts and track and validate their trades. Each time they buy or sell post a screen shot with time to back it up with a summary and tally which can easily be backed up if someone questions it. Screen shot needs to match the time post. If they don’t edit it should match the price at that time this validates the trade. If they edit the original post they get disqualified.

Also to enter 1 trade needs to be made Monday trading day 8am-7pm, to prevent people from re-entering if they mess up Monday and subsequent days.

Another option if this is too complicated is just for people to pick their stocks and investment amounts by a certain time given they have $10k such as like Monday 12pm and see who gets the best ROI by Friday 7pm. This second option is simpler but less fun and more luck then strategy. I think you can get better returns with day trading in 1st option for that limited time.

Sounds like we have a Premier League for the day traders, and Junior C for the buy them and hold them crowd (or the guys with jobs).

Premier league would be call options, leverage trading, shorting etc.

I suggest the initial investment is 10,000 CAD. For those trading US stock exchanges, you can convert to USD.

I won't report my gains every week, maybe at the end of each quarter.

Don’t even worry about conversion. A 9% gain is a 9% gain.

Home Depot 5 shares (402.7 x 5) = $2013.5
Nvidia 5 shares (315.03 x 5) = $1575.13
Visa 6 shares (197.65 x 6) = $1185.9
Microsoft 5 shares (329.68 x 5) =$1648.4
Amazon 1 share (3504.56 x 1) = $3504.56

Total money spent: 9963.49

I didn't put a tremendous amount of thought into my picks.
These 5 are some of my favorites in my portfolio. They've been good to me in the past so I'm sticking with them.

So, what is the goal? To have the best realised return? To do that, one needs to invest in the most risky stocks possible because it is impossible to win if you have well-balanced portfolio or even if you invest in high return low-risk stocks (which do not exist). To win in this competition your strategy should be opposite to how you should invest your real money.
