Sometimes raising the price is worth it when it benefits like this .....

Understandably you are focused upon gas and oil. No surprise there.

But I would suggest, that instead of bringing gas prices in Canada to Danish level, first:

1. Build out public transportation so nobody has to have a car. The published policy for public transportation in Denmark is, that from your home, you should not have more than 15 minutes walk to public transportation.

2. Provide bicycle paths on most roads and streets, such that a large proportion of people can get to work and shopping on bicycles. That has health benefits also.

Where I live, there is no public transportation. Zero, Zilch, nada

Not twice a day, or even once a day. There is Nothing.

go ahead and ride your bike from any of the 905 to downtown in January that would be real popular with the office workers or they can drive in their heated car without having to sit on a bus beside someone who hasnt praticed personal hygene in years.

There are no laws against driving cars to work in Denmark.

Tell hobbyists here living around central Toronto
to use public transportation for their next visit to
Pickering Angels or Allure spas. Life will be fine
riding on GO transit.
I'll bet that the hobbyists here aren't living on minimum wage so it doesn't matter to them. Nice deflection though.

if you were an investor would you mind losing a source if your income or significant amount of your retirement resources for the benefit of others? 20, 30, 40? how much would you be willing to lose?
That's exactly the point I'm making. The constant need for profit doesn't seem to improve people's quality of life. It also seems that people in Denmark don't need to save millions to survive.

(I don't live in Denmark so I do what I need to do to have a high quality retirement but I don't resent the government raising taxes to benefit society)

and there is no way Canadians are going to bike to work so building more bike lanes is a waste of time and money
In downtown Toronto it seems to have increased bike usage at least in 3 seasons and there is a hardcore group of 4 season cyclists. But no, rural or suburban communities don't have the density of workplaces to allow for a reasonable bike commute for many.

If you don't live downtown then you probably shouldn't be making the decisions for those who do. Bike lanes are a municipal matter.

agreed for some people it would not. there was a study and it found that after 80k in income most peoples level of happiness or satisfaction didnt improve dramatically. however, you cant apply a rule across the board since it would effect everyone. as well who are we as people to tell someone they have made to much especially when they have built that wealth. most millionares/billionares are self made and not through inheritance.

denmark has a very strong social safety net and a heavy tax system to pay for that safety new which more than likely paid for by the middle class, just like canada.

Im not a fan of a people justifying stealing from another person because they cannot preform at the same level of financial excellence or entrepreneurship. there will always be the top earners and bottom earners. if people want to help people with charity Im all for it, but robbing from the rich to give to the poor is wrong.

The taxes is a bit higher in Denmark than Canada. But it is not fair to just compare the level of taxation.

When you order a Filet Mignon you expect to pay more than for a Big Mac.

You get very good value for your tax money in Denmark, in education, health care, unemployment, social services, public transportation etc

Those middle class seem to have a very high quality of life despite the taxes. By contrast, many of the middle class in the land of the free can't afford medical care.

And if you really consider taxes to be "stealing" .....

sure if you want to pay for other people who cannot be responsible for themselves.
If you want to live as part of a society.
