It's also called democracy, a lofty concept that most Canadians only understand little. The people of Wisconsin decided that self defense is a fundamental right and provided the citizenry(themselves)with the means to exercise it. Hence, you can carry a weapon and even use it in certain circumstances. It may not meet your definition of "civilized", but this is what the voters agreed to.
Honestly? If I was the judge and this was trial by judge, I would follow the law prescribed by the state (Wisconsin), and, like it or not, I'd have found him not guilty.
My criticism isn't so much about the verdict, but rather about how fucked up laws in the United States are.

It may surprise you, but we have self defence in Canada as well.
He would have done time for the gun, as would Grosskreutz. But he would have been acquitted of murder in Toronto, just like Kenosha.

Then I would have found him not guilty of the shots fired as he fell down before the protesters retreated. There is a point after he was clearly out of danger when he stood up, walked a little then leveled his rifle and fired into the retreating people. If those shots wounded anyone, I would find him guilty of those resulting charges. Based on that clip I would certainly support reckless use/ endangerment of a firearm if there was a charge.
Just my view from the peanut gallery.
