I clicked the link associated with this ad on the Yahoo! home page, and my browser was hijacked by a page telling me that my IP address had been used to view illegal sites. The popup page could not be closed, it covered the task bar, and I could not enable the task manager with Ctrl+Alt +Delete. With no way to restart or shutdown the computer normally, I turned the power off, but the page came back when I signed back in. This second time, however, I was not connected to the Internet, (I connect manually at start up), and I was able to open the task manager and close my browser. There were no lingering effects. A popup on the hijack page mentioned a trojan virus associated with the page. It did not affect me, but it might infect those who don't close the page the way I did.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I experienced an issue with Yahoo recently when my recipient list did not pop-up when I compose a new email.

I think another option would be restoring your computer to a point in time before the virus hit. If you were in the middle of working on something you might lose it.

I am always surprised to hear people still use yahoo at all. It's always been a hackers paradise. They have never invested in decent security protocols.

Do you have any anti virus software like Norton?

I do, it identified the name of the trojan linked to the page. My computer was not infected, as I was able to close the page by closing the browser. Task Manager is the first app I open whenever I start or restart my computer.

Yahoo huh? I had a couple e-mails in my Yahoo inbox recently, supposedly from Paypal. Didn't open either one as the sending address just didn't quite look right.

I know some people who use Rogers or Bell email but the problem when you leave them is you lose access to all your email history. One of my friends "clones" all his email so that he has his own copy.

P.S.
Yahoo has a new owner, again - CNET

Yes! Had this happen in the way back days! It was a pain then, can only imagine what a nightmare it would be now with the email volume I deal with.

Lately I have been getting messages about once a week in my hotmail from McAfee saying my subscription is about to expire. I know it renews in Feb so I just delete but I must say they are persistent.
