I never really was a fan of Star Wars, even though I watched several of the movies. To me it was all about special effects, and action. Not my thing. As for Star Trek, I didn’t really watch any episodes, only a few of the later series.

But recently Netflix added the original series. I watched a few episodes and I was immediately enamored. I found it to be extremely original, charming and fascinating. To me this series is more about telling stories in the future that could actually happen, encountering interesting aliens that have different morals, intelligences and motives, and how we humans would react to them.

The stories are filled with interesting moral dilemmas, fascinating plots and twists. I could definitely see now why there are so many hard-core trekkies.

But on the other hand, there are also very hardcore Star Wars fans. I guess the difference comes down to peoples individual tastes.

Thousands of years into the future when humans have the capacity to travel to other galaxies, they will undoubtedly explore new worlds, it is in our DNA. We are curious and inquisitive by nature. I love the mission motto of the Enterprise. What strange new worlds and aliens will we encounter? Will they be hostile or friendly? How will we react to them? What type of relationshop will we forge with them? Allliances?

And considering that this series is about 50 years old is pretty amazing. The technological gadgets are interesting but really secondary to the stories.

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before!

Being a geek, attending conventions, having watched all most all of it on both sides, I can definitely say they are quite different enough the comparison is moot.

Star Trek is the most cerebral of the two easily. The Original series and Next Gen franchises were mirrors of both present day political commentary and speculation on the future. It's vision in the end is to highlight the best of humanity and to give hope for a better tomorrow. Abrams and company fucked up the Discovery Series but the rest stand the test of time.

Star Wars is in fact an old School Fantasy story converted to Sci Fi.
Old Wizard hides away Young Knight Destined for greatness. Along the was he is joined by a few rogues(Han and Chewy), comic relief(the droids) as he quests to save the Princess(secretly family) from the forboding Fortress. And Defeat the Evil wizard/Knight. And of course everyone knows and can extrapolate the rest. Its fun, somewhat predictable, a landmark in special effects. Changed movie making and made geek culture cool as much as anything has.

So enjoy both. They are quite different enough( latest Mandalorian is just a plain ol' Western trope, they should hologram John Wayne in and Have Clint Eastwood Cameo as well) to appease the different cravings of entertainment you may have in the moment.

Star Wars- popcorn
Star Trek- Steak and potatoes
I agree. Star Wars to me is entertainment: Action, special effects, drama. Star Trek is deep, philosphical, moral, personal journeys of humanity exploring the final frontiers of the universe.

Star Trek but the latest films were very bad. Most of the films were hit and miss, at least a film like The Final Frontier was a huge dollop of cheese with Shat's erotic toupee.

Chris Pine was a bland Captain Kirk and the films were cookie cutter quasi Star Wars. Shat may not have been the best actor but he had charisma to spare. Tom Hardy as a Picard clone was a great idea but Patrick Stewart fucked it up by announcing he would no longer play Picard before Nemesis was shot.

Star trek all the way. (With the exception of Discover which is unwatchable.)

Star Wars, the 3 original episodes episodes from the 70s and early 80s were great, but pretty much every subsequent installment was crap. Really, how far can you take what is basically a civil war in space? The plot just locks the writers in whereas Star Trek you can go crazy.

The Chickening!

I tried watching Maid, I lost interest after 10 minutes. Yes Margaret Qualley has big potential but I've had enough of the "men are evil" kaka.

So I started watching Orange is the new Black, it works. The concept is a GND locked up in an all female prison, Taylor Shilling as the Goldilocks GND sells it. That's not why I started watching it, Captain Janeway is in it. To say that Kate Mulgrew's character Red Reznikov is badass awesome is a severe understatement!
