Darts, the expert, proves once again that his claims of being knowledgeable are a joke. Hahahahaha.
Since you think you are so smart and knowledgeable, what was your opinion/prediction BEFORE Rielly signed? Please tell us.

This team is trash, no interest this season. Hope Campbell goes down and a couple other injuries to matthews or something and they get an accidental tank and a decent draft pick. The silver lining in all of this would be dubas getting fired too for missing the playoffs.

not a contender, not even close. Big step down from past 2 seasons on the roster

Also Morgan rielly can’t play defense. Another hideous contract, he’s a fourth forward, on a team that has too many soft forwards!!! No more koolaid from me, leafs are built like garbage

Lots of opinions on social media.
"Morgan Rielly most likely took a little less money compared to what he would have got on the open market. Last summer alone, Seth Jones signed an extension with a cap hit of $9.5 million, Zach Werenski signed for just over that same $9.5 million figure, Dougie Hamilton signed for $9 million, Charlie McAvoy signed for $9.5 million, Darnell Nurse signed for $9.25 million, Cale Makar signed for $9 million, and Miro Heiskanen signed for $8.45 million. Now, all those defensemen are either better, younger, or both. Some veteran defensemen that signed bigger deals recently include Torey Krug at $6.5 million, Alex Pietrangelo at $8.8 million, and Jared Spurgeon for $7.5 million." (Not convinced Krug got a better contract.)

Looks like my "kool aid" comment started a trend. But, the Leafs will always have the "3 Amigos" because they know little or nothing about how the game is played on the ice and how to efficiently manage the cap.

More thoughts/opinions/predictions from social media.
"With this deal, Kyle Dubas locks in another core player at a big number. For the next two seasons, the Leafs are going to have over $58 million tied up in just Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, TJ Brodie, and Jake Muzzin. In a flat-cap world, that’s going to leave somewhere around $25 million for eight other forwards, three other defensemen, and a goalie just to ice a starting roster — let alone a backup goalie and some spare players. Unless they have a number of players breakthrough on entry-level contracts, they can’t possibly build any real depth and this is a roster that already lacks depth."

5 Players now account for 60% of the Leafs payroll.
Funny how sports mirrors real life.
That's hockey's version of the 1%.

Unless you're doing a total rebuild, you have to sign Rielly.
Whether he's lived up to expectations or not doesn't change his value on the team,
it's more that they can't afford to lose him.
It's starting to feel like the last couple of years of Burke's time in Toronto where it was about not losing his job.
Having said that I'm glad Rielly is staying on.

Strictly based on analytics and comparing to what most recent no.1 d men (on their perspective teams) have been signed for, I have to agree that this is a pretty good contract for the team. His weaknesses however are what mirror the team’s identity, i e soft defence and ineffective quarterbacknig the power play. This extension also signifies that Dubas‘s job is safe at least till the end of this season or he wouldn’t be allowed to make big decisions such as this.

Let's put it this way.

I made no prediction. Unlike you, I don't pretend to know about things that I actually don't.

As such, I made no incorrect predictions. Unlike you, who pretends to be knowledgeable and makes unqualified predictions, but then what actually happens makes their predictions laughable and them having egg on their face.

LOL. Unlike you, I didn't pretend to be something I'm not. You think and repeatedly claim that you're knowledgeable, yet you continue to expose yourself as anything but.

It's better to say nothing and let people think you're a fool, than to open your mouth and prove them right.

Leafs will not make the playoffs,
Panthers or the Canes will be the 2022 Stanley cup champion

Typical Shack, posting silly cartoons.

So, how many hockey predictions have you made? Please tell. Or, are you going to post another silly cartoon again?

If you disagreed, you should have said so at the time. To come charging out of the bushes after the fact means you have no credibility.

Agree, it's a reasonable contract for the Leafs salary-wise, although the eight year term could be very problematic nearer term down the road. While he's no where near being considered a 'stud' defenseman, he's still a top tier guy and they paid the going rate for equivalent talent. I get the feeling that this got green lit by others and wasn't solely a Dubas move. I also think that if you're going to add this kind of obligation to the portfolio, there has to be a plan to balance the books via significant trades later on. Could be the start of a bigger, more significant move yet to come, maybe involving one of the high-priced 'core'. Still not convinced Dubas is safe, and wouldn't be surprised to see him dumped before calendar year end.
